DATES OF THE RACES:
Race 1
Saturday 12th January 2013. Cowes
Race 2
Saturday 2nd February 2013. Rhyll
Race 3
Saturday 23rd March 2013. Newhaven
RACE TIME :
Warning signal will be 1055 Hrs.
RULES:
This race will be governed by the Yachting Australian, Racing Rules of Sailing 2009 – 2012
and Safety Regulations of the YA., (except as any of these are altered by these sailing
instructions).
ENTRIES:
Entrants shall declare their intention to start by “signing on” no later than 20 minutes prior
to the start. All boats to state Boat Name, POB and Sail Number.
This must be done by radio to Rhyll Yacht Club, call sign RH1 on 27.94 MHz or VHF 73.
Failure to do this will be considered a DNS.

RACE CATEGORIES:
All entries must meet the equipment and accommodation standards as set out in the YA RRS
2009 - 2012 Addendum ‘A’ Special Regulations Part 1, Category 6 with the following inclusions;
3.05.1(b) Removable hatches to have locks and lanyards
3.23(b) Engine, permanently installed or outboard
3.23(b) Outboard motors for trailable boats, to be mounted at all times
Engine to provide minimum speed into 12 knot headwind
3.24 HF or VHF or 27 MHz transceiver installed as specified
4.21(a) Lifebuoy or other approved device with drogue (no light for daylight race)
4.23 Heaving line accessible to cockpit
IMPORTANT: Mandatory for all yachts to maintain a radio watch for the duration of the
race and any additional requirements for individual clubs must be met.
Entrants are advised that spot checks on category compliance may be made.
STARTING:
All races will start in the vicinity of the Rhyll Yacht Club, and involve a short beat to
windward prior to sailing the course as listed. The rounding of this windward mark (an
orange floating drum) shall be declared by the raising of a red (Port) or green (Starboard)
flag on the committee boat masthead.
The race will be started with the warning signal given 5, 4 and 1 minute before the starting
signal. Code flag one will indicate the only division.

Cowes Yacht Club (buoy to starboard)

Will be signalled with code flag “S” flown on Committee boat adjacent to mark (With
sound signals).
Will also be notified by radio on 27.94 MHz and repeated on VHF channel 73.
TIME LIMIT.
The first boat must finish within 5 hours for the race to be valid. All other yachts must finish
no later than 6.5 Hrs after the start.
PROTESTS:
Protests shall be in writing and shall be lodged with the Newhaven Yacht Squadron Boating
Secretary, or his deputy or committee boat, within one hour of the last boat finishing.
The race committee will hear protests approximately in the order of receipt and as soon as
practicable.
ALTERNATIVE PENALTIES
The 720 degree turn penalty, in accordance with Racing Rules (rule 44.1, 44.2) will apply.
RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
Radio communications will be conducted on Marine band frequency 27.94 MHz repeated
on VHF channel 73. However all yachts should maintain a listening watch on 27.88 MHz or
VHF channel 73 (repeater Channel 21) during the race.
Race 1. Sign on with Rhyll yacht club RH 1, then the Cowes Yacht Club after the start and
to the end of the race. Sign off with Cowes Yacht Club at finish
Race 2. Will be conducted by Rhyll RH1, or Newhaven VJ3ND if necessary. Sign off with
Rhyll Yacht Club when finished on RH1.
Race 3. Sign on with Rhyll Yacht Club then Newhaven VJ3ND after the start and to the end
of the race. Sign off with Newhaven Yacht Squadron when finished on VJ3ND.
SCORES:
To include as many boats as possible, each Club team will be governed by the smallest
club team for each race minus one boat: e.g. if the smallest club team has seven starters,
each team score will be based on 6 best performances. Minimum team number shall be 3
boats.
The “low points scoring system” shall apply.
Handicap will be based on CBH yardstick.
INDEMNITY
All those taking part in this series of individual races, do so at their own risk. The Yacht
Clubs, Phillip Island are not responsible for the seaworthiness of a yacht whose entry is
accepted or for the adequacy of its equipment. Attention is drawn to the YA RRS
Fundamental Rules. The yacht Clubs, Phillip Island, its members or those crewing rescue
or committee craft assisting in the conduct of the race, will not be held responsible for
damage or injury caused in any circumstances or in any manner whatsoever.
These sailing instructions in no way limit or reduce the complete and inescapable
responsibility for the sole and entire management of the yacht he or she is sailing.
Attention is drawn to RRS 4 “ Decision to Race”, which state: “The responsibility for
a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.”
INSURANCE
All competitors are required to have personally, or through their boats, Third Party Liability
Insurance to a minimum of $10,000,000 and adequate racing insurance.
RESULTS
Trianglular Series race results will be emailed to each club and posted on the Newhaven
Yacht Squadron web site after each race. ( www.nys.com.au)
