Wilson Country Club
President’s Message
By: Kent Williams
The board would like to welcome Reid Hill as the permanent General Manager and Craig Clemmer as the
Assistant General Manager. They have both proved to be invaluable to the club and we look forward to
the future. Please help me welcome them.
The club has been busy preparing for summer. The pool will open Memorial Day weekend and we hope
to have another successful season. Upgrades have been completed and pool staff are in place.
Golf and tennis continue to see play and summer is sure to increase activity.
As always, thank you for your support and I hope to see you at your club.
Sincerely
Kent Williams
Membership Identification
Swipe Cards
Wilson Country Club will be initiating a new program with identification swipe cards. These cards
will be used to ensure that all of the correct charges are placed onto the proper account. Each household will receive 2 cards. There is a $5 replacement
fee if a card is lost.
The swipe cards will be available for pick up in the
Administrative Office. We will be enforcing the use
of these cards at the Swimming Pool, as of June 1st.
Wilson Country Club will not be allowing any purchases from the Swimming Pool without the presence of the swipe card. Once again, this is to ensure
that each charge will be going to the proper account.
Coolers at Wilson Country Club
Wilson County Club will now have a sign out/in
program for our coolers. Due to a large amount of
coolers not being returned, we have decided to
track our coolers more careful.
When purchasing a six pack of beer for your round
of golf, you will have a numbered cooler. You will be
responsible for the return of your cooler. If the
cooler that has been assigned to you does not return to Grover’s Grill within 48 hours of your sign
out of the cooler, your account will be charged a
cooler fee.
If you have any questions regarding this new system, please do not hesitate to contact the Golf Shop
or the Administrative Office.

Dear Membership,
It is with great excitement that I write to inform you of the recent reciprocal agreement reached between Benvenue Country Club of Rocky Mount, Wilson Country Club of Wilson, and Greenville Country
Club of Greenville. This reciprocal agreement gives the membership of all three clubs the wonderful opportunity to enjoy three of Eastern North Carolina’s premier golf and country clubs, with membership
privileges at each.
The fee structure for each round of golf played at a member’s non-home club will be a flat cart fee of
$20.00 per member, per round. If you should bring a guest to a reciprocating club, the host clubs guest
policy will be in effect. Under the reciprocal agreement, all tee times must be booked by a member’s
home club’s golf professional, or professional staff, and are subject to the same tee time rules and restrictions of a member’s home club. Also, when visiting one of the other courses that is part of the reciprocal agreement, any golf-related or other charges must be paid for by credit card at the time the charges are incurred.
In addition to the golf privileges at each of the clubs in the reciprocal agreement, the dining, tennis and
swimming (when in season) facilities and related privileges are available for each club’s members to enjoy. As with golf tee times, proper reservations must be made in advance with the club to ensure all related services can be coordinated by the club and facility staff. Also, charges related to use of the dining,
tennis and swimming facilities at clubs that are part of the reciprocal agreement must be paid for by
credit card at the time the charges are incurred.
Please note, any future members at one of the clubs that is a part of this reciprocal agreement must join
the club that is closest to their principal residence. We appreciate your keeping this in mind, and informing any friends, family, colleagues, etc. that you know now, or in the future, may be interested in
joining one of the clubs. This is a critical element to the reciprocal agreement, as it allows each club to
individually grow its membership, while still enjoying the privileges to members associated with the
use of all clubs in the reciprocal agreement.
We look forward to the value and friendships this will bring to all these great clubs. Please do not hesitate to contact your home club’s golf professional with any questions regarding the reciprocal agreement.

Tip of the Month
Want a higher ball flight? There are many things that you can do in order to increase the trajectory of
your ball flight. Moving your golf ball to the front of your stance, teeing your ball higher, and adjusting
your shoulders all can be helpful in increasing the height of your shots. Since we’ve had a few months of
nice weather now, we should be reacquainted with our golf swings and can start adding in a few wrinkles. One additional way to practice this is to hit balls on a downslope.
2nd Annual Grover Bullin Memorial Golf Tournament
Help Wilson Country Club honor an amazing man the best way we know how! The 2nd Annual Grover
Bullin Memorial Golf Tournament will be on Friday, May 2nd. All of the proceeds from the tournament
will go to the Grover Bullin Scholarship, which will be presented to an applicant who is from Wilson and
will be attending Barton College.
The entry fee is $300 per team. If you would not like to play or cannot, but would still like to participate,
we are also doing sign sponsors for $100. The signs will be placed at a tee box or around the putting
green. If you would like to register, please contact Reid Hill, in the Pro Shop, or Charlie Bedgood, at

The PURPLE LADIES group will focus on improving golf knowledge and at the same time focusing on
3 main areas (Time, Invitation, and Social Connection). Our goal as instructors is to provide you with the skills

time friendly atmosphere.
(Time) Our sessions will last 1 to 1.5 hours and will include a mixture of lessons on the range and playing lessons on the golf course. We don’t want time to be an issue. If you’re coming from work and running late, no

Craig Clemmer, Superintendent
Warm It Up Chris!
Many of you may have figured out by now that Will Caudle, who has been my assistant for the past year
or so, is no longer with us. He has taken a job working for a property owners association in New Bern
where he and his wife owned a house. I cannot fault him as it was a good move professionally for himself and for his wife. I wish him all the best!
Just as Will left, we had finished up aerification and the weather turned cooler than normal. This has not
helped the healing process of the greens, though they are in really good shape. Our aerification went
very smoothly with all things considered. We were able to squeeze what is normally a four day process
into three days and get it done between rains on Monday and Friday and we even added the step of deep
tine aerification to the list of things to complete. The deep tine helps to alleviate the compaction deeper
in the profile that has been created over time partly by nature of age and partly by the fact that we have
aerified to the same depth since they have been rebuilt. Not only does this process help to generate better root growth but it also helps to increase drainage off of the surface and get the water down through
the soil profile. I fully expect the greens to do well this year and see a dramatic difference in the overall
health this year.
Right after the aerification, Bayer came and we applied an application of the new nematicide that is to be
released sometime this summer. Because of the relationship that we have and the part that we played
in getting this product tested and to market they have extended this opportunity to us. The relationship
that I have nurtured with them, for the past 8 years, has paid great dividends to Wilson Country Club
and allowed us to be on the cutting edge in addressing our very serious issue with nematodes.
With Will leaving, I had to find a replacement. I had the job posted for over a month and only received
one resume. I met with this person and he just did not seem to be the right fit for WCC or my team. After much thought I decided the answer was right under my nose and offered the position to Chris Lane
who has been working here for the past 3 years and will be acquiring his Associates Degree in turfgrass
management in the near future. With that being said I certainly hope that along with his new found position he finds a way to warm it up!
I look forward to seeing you all on the course in the near future!
Regards,
Craig Clemmer
