The Showcase of Excellence runway show and mounted exhibit is part of the annual ATID Student Symposium providing
students the opportunity to show their work to the public and industry professionals. The symposium focus and
showcase theme is "Creative Thinking."

TYPE OF SUBMISSION: Submissions may be any 2D or 3D work that could be displayed in a gallery exhibition or
runway show and represent excellence in research, scholarly and creative activities, and discovery. Submissions may
include, but are not limited to categories listed, please check applicable type(s).
Original Design (e.g., project or product of apparel, textiles, interior design, art or design)
Original Presentation (e.g., project board, research poster, booklet, portfolio)
Original Styling of apparel and textiles (e.g., combine existing products to communicate an intended look)
Sewn Product from commercial pattern (not an option for students who have completed pattern-making coursework)

REQUIRED ATTACHMENTS: For each submission, attach on two separate pages:
1. DESCRIPTION: Attach a statement to include purpose and intended market or audience. One-page limit. Include
title of submission.
2. PHOTO: Attach a photo of the entry. Garment entries must be on a live model or dress form. Include title of
submission.
AWARDS: Each submission will be evaluated for acceptance and awards. Submissions may be disqualified at any time.
Examples for non-acceptance may include, but are not limited to, lack of citation or inappropriate citation; unacceptable
quality, fit, or function; inappropriate for display at a family event; incomplete ensemble; not easily taken on or off; or
not able to be displayed appropriately. Award Categories:
 Best of Show. Awards in Runway and Mounted. Must address Showcase Theme. See Theme Award section.
 K-State Third-year through Graduate Students. Awards in Runway and Mounted. Preference given to Showcase
Theme submissions.
 K-State First- and Second-year students. Awards in Runway and Mounted. Showcase Theme is optional.
 Inspired by Janet Rees. See Theme Award section.
AWARD CATEGORY ATTACHMENTS:
THEME AWARDS: All submissions will be reviewed and considered for general awards; however, to be considered for
Showcase Theme or Janet Rees awards, a statement must be attached with criteria below. Include submission title on
attachment. Please check which awards are being addressed or the last option if neither themes were addressed. If
applying for both categories, include a statement for each – do not combine.
SHOWCASE THEME, CREATIVE THINKING
Demonstrate your creative thinking experience by addressing applicable creative thinking traits below. Images may also be
included. One-page limit.

2. Embracing Contradictions. Explain how contradictory perspectives or ideas were considered or incorporated.
3. Solving Problems. Explain your problem solving approach and reason for choosing final solution.

Live Models or Dress Forms will be provided for entries accepted into the Showcase of Excellence.
Accepted entries requiring children’s or male runway models will consult with Showcase personnel.
JURY: The jury will be blind-review with two jurors evaluating each submission. Evaluation criteria are quality,
aesthetics, originality, and appropriateness in addressing purpose, market/audience and any selected themes.
NOTIFICATION: Applicants will be informed of jury results, via email, approximately one week from the due date.
