Rowdies had good soccer season The Rowdies "Under 16" team of the Brewster United Soccer Club had a record of 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie in the fall season of the Westchester-Putnam Soccer League. The Rowdies defeated Bedford and Mahopac, lost to Poughkeepsie and East Fishkill, and tied LaGrange. There was a noticeable vast improvement of such players as Matt Howe and team captain Karl Lebitsch, both strong fullbacks. Tom Martin, new this season, up from the "B" division, added strength to the many positions he played. Left fullback John O'Sullivan is one of the most outstanding players on the team. The veteran missed the first two games after receiving a knee injury in practice prior to the season opener. Another new valuable player, also up from the "B" division, is the very promising Tim Skeels. He played center fullback and had an excellent fall season. The halfbacks are the backbone of any soccer team and the Rowdies have strength at that position. New to the team is Charlie Kaster, a veteran of many "select" teams, who is making his mark with the Rowdies. The most aggressive and outstanding player is Richard Tiersch, the team co-captian. His aggressiveness has resulted in i many goals and assists. Halfback Mike Klein, with the team a couple of seasons, is cool under pressure and has some goals and assists to his credit. Also showing great promise is Rick Faley, up from the "B" Division. The forward line is made up of veterans. Martin Goudie, playing outside left, is a strong individual. Center forward Bruce McFarlane has many hat tricks (3 goals in one game), plus many assist. The most versatile player is Jim Clarke. He has gone from the forward line to defense, then back up forward. His aggressive play has given him many goals and assist. The two goalkeepers, Brian Broggy and Mike Watson, turned in outstanding performances throughout the season. Brian is an "old timer," while Mike is new to soccer, but has become an outstanding goalkeeper in his short time with the BUSC. Coach Ron Hendrie and Assistant Coach Zig Tiersch are both soccer veterans. They are proud of their young team and predict a winning season in the months ahead. Hendrie asked that anyone interested in helping with the league field coordination call htm at 279-4762.
