From the Principal’s pen
Parents, let me first take the time to thank you for entrusting your child in our care on a daily basis.
We are pleased that you have chosen our school to provide him/her with individualized evidencebased practices to meet his/her specific needs. As we make efforts to improve how we approach
each instructional day, we need input from you. We appreciate and value your input as we stay
focused on what’s important, and that’s educating the 1 in 5 children with dyslexia in Baton Rouge
and the surrounding areas. We are implementing a “Suggestion Box” in the front office in which all
stakeholders have the opportunity to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement. Lastly, we
will be disseminating surveys to you on Wednesday and our fifth grade students later this
week where you will again have the opportunity to have a voice. As always, my door is always
open for you . If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to stop by, call, or send me an
email. T. Chatman, Principal
2016-2017 Teacher of the Year
5th grade bls teacher

Important: Afternoon
dismissal and carpool Changes
As our school continues to grow and the number of families that we serve increases, our car pool line
does as well. There have been concerns regarding the congestion of cars on South Acadian Thruway
during our dismissal. In an effort to curtail the heavy flow of traffic on South Acadian Thruway, we
have modified our car pool dismissal procedures.
Our dismissal time will change to 3:15pm effective January 4th when students return second
semester. Cars may not begin lining up prior to this designated time, as the electronic scanner for our
CarRider Pro System will not be effective until 3:15pm. Be mindful that we are coordinating with our
neighboring Catholic High School, who must clear their student parking lot to allow our parents
access to the area.
Cars will continue to enter on Cole Drive behind CVS, but will turn left (a diagram will be sent home
next month). Cars will proceed alongside the Catholic High School baseball field, allowing more cars
onto the parking lot and off the street. Cars will be loaded and then required to turn right to exit off
Government Street.
Thank you so much for your cooperation as we make a safe and more efficient dismissal procedure
for our families. Parents, please call me at (225) 298-1223 or email me at
[email protected] with questions or concerns.

My favorite activity today was science in Ms.
Brown’s room because you were getting points
and learning.

I enjoyed the puppets, jack-o-lantern story,
drawing pictures, and Boo Bowling.
Brooke Scalise, 4th Grade.
My favorite activity today was the puppet
show because Mrs. Smith is one of my
favorite teachers. My favorite part of the day
was the playground because I got to play with
my friends. Kameron Bailey, 5th Grade.
My favorite activity today was Boo Bowling
because we had to guess the number of candy
corn. Mackenzie Batey, 5th Grade
Anti-Bullying Assembly
There’s nothing more heart-lifting than seeing our students excited and engaged as they listen to the words of a
wonderful speaker. But to also see the students who have withdrawn because they are being bullied find hope in
those same words is truly special. This is the goal of a new program by authors and radio show hosts Dianne de
Las Casas and John Couret.
Dianne de Las Casas and John Couret co-authored the new chapter book CAPTAIN DEADEYE; THE BULLY
SHARK, Book 1 in an anti-bully chapter book series. It is a story that is close to both of their hearts because they
were both victims of bullying as children.
These authors visited our school Monday, November 7th to speak to our boys and girls about bullying prevention.
