In an effort to improve bodily health and strength, and to discipline the mind, the Greeks developed a type of education called Gymnastics. Gymnastics was highly regarded by the Greek because they believed it was for the development of the body. Music was also highly regarded by the Greeks because it’s the “food of the spirit”. In ancient Greece, it was the responsibility of the state to educate every child. The contents and objectives of the Greek’s education included activities and exercises that were aimed at developing qualities such as strength, agility, bravery, and courage required to every soldiers. Sparta and Athens were the two most important city states in ancient Greece; both had different belief in physical education.
