DESTROY THOSE
OLD CHECKS!
Way back in 2001 we changed
clearing houses for our checks.
We sent notices out, had
messages in all of our
newsletters, reminders on
receipts, (the first notice
actually went out in March of
1999!) In March of 2001 we told you to destroy any old
checks because they would not be honored. Well,
here it is 4 years later and some of you are using the
old checks;( maybe you ran out of checks and grabbed
a batch that was in back of your desk drawer). Much
to your surprise and embarrassment the check was
returned unpaid. We get notified by our former
clearing house after the fact, and try to contact you as
soon as possible, but by that time you already were hit
with a bad check fee from whomever you sent the
check to. Here is the correct information again.
The checks you use must have the following routing
number: 221492002, (found on the bottom left) and
50-9200/2214 (just below the date line). If your checks
have any other information DESTROY THEM. They
are the old checks and will not be honored.
HAS THIS HAPPENED TO YOU?
You go to a Shared Service Center to
make a deposit or withdrawal from your
LISEFCU account, give the teller the
proper ID and tell her your account number
and she tells you “Sorry, but that number is
invalid.” You KNOW you gave her the
right number, you took it right off your checks, or Visa Debit Card!
How could this be?
The number on your checks has an extra digit, called a check
digit, and is not part of the account number. The number on your
Visa Debit or ATM card has nothing in common with your account
number here at the credit union. And, for security reasons,
Shared Service Centers have no way to look a number up for you.
The correct number is your Base Number, which is the
number that appears on your statement in the upper right
hand corner. (It’s the same number you use for Audio
Response and Online Banking.) It’s no less than 3 digits,
and NEVER more than 5 digits. (Most of our members have
5 digit numbers.) No dashes, no leading zero’s. Just the
Base Number. If you’re not sure of your number call us at
