A MONTHLY PUBLICATION OF THE LOUISVILLE METRO INTERGROUP OF OVEREATERS ANONYMOUS Twelve Stepper November 17, 2015 www.oa.org Newcomer Information: 502-566-3110 Check out the new website! louisvillemetrooa.org Upcoming OA Events IDEA Day: THIS SATURDAY, Nov. 21, 2-4 pm at the YMCA, 33 State Street, New Albany, IN 47150. The workshop will be held in the first floor community room of the YMCA in New Albany, Indiana, which is just across the I-64-West bridge from Louisville into Indiana. Strategies to End Relapse and Stay Abstinent! November 21 is the OA “International Day of Experiencing Abstinence (known as IDEA Day),” a day “that encourages members worldwide to begin or reaffirm their abstinence from compulsive eating.” Whether you’ve been abstinent for years, months, days, or not at all, this workshop is an opportunity to share your strength, experience, and hope ABOUT THE FOOD. The workshop will review OA resources and strategies that support abstinence and then people will share about what they have done to maintain abstinence that has helped them the most. Louisville Metro OA Thanksgiving meeting: Thursday, Nov. 26, 7:00-9:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2233 Woodbourne Ave., Louisville, 40205. Plan to join with OA friends for our annual Thanksgiving morning gratitude meeting. We will meet in the second floor room of the education building at St. Andrews. This is a wonderful come-as-you-are and when-you-can meeting whose sole topic is gratitude! Planners will be sure that the door to the handicapped access is open as well as the door to the stairwell. 12 / 12 / 2015 is Twelfth Step Within Day !!! Our OA Preamble reminds us that “Our primary purpose is to abstain from compulsive eating and to carry the message of recovery through the Twelve Steps of OA to those who still suffer.” For many years, OA members interpreted “carrying the message” in the Preamble and in Step 12 to mean carrying the message to outsiders who have never heard of OA. OA World Service began the Twelfth Step Within program when members realized that many people INSIDE THE ROOMS are still suffering and need the best help that OA can give them. In Louisville Metro Intergroup, we are having not only a Twelfth Step within DAY, we are having a Twelfth Step within YEAR, as you can tell by this 12-Stepper! Because the January 2015 surveys revealed that maintaining abstinence and recovering from relapse are problems for many in our fellowship, Intergroup adopted these priorities for the coming year: 1) Help members strengthen their personal recovery, 2) Increase the number of sponsors, 3) Increase the number and retention of newcomers, 4) Help those in relapse. One way you can help with Twelfth Step Within work is to observe December 12 as a day to reach out to those who need connection and support. A simple phone call to say “We’ve been missing you at meetings” might be the message someone needs to hear. Please mark December 12 on your calendar as a day to make OA calls. Even better, mark the 12th of any month as a day to make OA calls! Unity Day: Feb. 27, 2-4 p.m. Workshop on Sponsorship at Audubon Park United Methodist Church: The workshop will cover OA resources available for becoming sponsors and for becoming “initial” or “temporary” sponsors who take newcomers through Steps 1-3. A panel of sponsors (with various lengths of time sponsoring) will share the experience, strength and hope they’ve gained from working with sponsees. The gathering will pray the Unity Day prayer, “I put my hand in yours…”, as we remember, that hand often belongs to a sponsor!
