2nd April 2017 – Race Info Pack
Competitor Information
Please take time to read through this information back prior to race day.
Rules and regulations: All competitors should familiarise themselves with the BTF Competition
Rules under which this event shall be run. If you wish to withdraw from the event, you should do so
in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of the event. It is strictly forbidden to give your entry
to another person or compete under an entry that isn’t your own. The BTF Competition rules can be
found here: https://www.britishtriathlon.org/events/competition-rules .
Parking: Parking can be accessed via the University West Entrance (NG7 2QL). Participants are
advised to park in the nearby halls namely Ancaster, Willoughby, Florence Boot, Rutland, and
Sherwood. Do note a one way system is in place on campus from 9am to 1.30pm.
Registration: Registration is located in the triathlon village marquee and will be open from 6.30am –
2:30pm. To register you will need to bring a BTF license or have purchased a day license (during sign
up). You will receive your race pack here, which will contain your race number (to be worn on your
back for the bike section and front for the run section, please fill in relevant medical details on the
back of the numbers), helmet sticker and bike sticker. You will also be presented with a timing chip,
to be worn throughout the race on the left ankle. There is a £75 fine if you fail to return your chip. A
goodie bag will also be given.
Changing: Main changing provision will be located at the swimming pool. Lockers are available.
There is a £1 deposit for the swimming pool lockers and one’s own padlock is required for other
DRSV lockers.
Briefing: Race briefing will take place at the pool 15 minutes before your wave start time. All
competitors must attend.
Course Map: See below for course map or follow the link on the website. A map will also be
provided in your race pack
Swim: The swim is 400m/16 lengths. Competitors must adhere to their wave start time and wear the
designated hat colour. Competitors are responsible for counting their own lengths.
Transition 1: Follow the marked route to transition. Helmet must be worn and fastened before
moving your bike. Push your bike across the mount line and mount your bike. Please be mindful of
other competitors already on the course when you exit and enter transition.
Bike: The bike is 15km (5 x 3km laps). BTF approved helmets must be worn. This is a non-drafting
event and the Highway Code must be followed always. Please note, you will be responsible for
counting your own laps. There are several fast corners on the course, so please take caution.
Littering is prohibited.
Transition 2: Fully dismount your bike before crossing the mount line. Re-rack your bike in its
original position. Once your bike is racked, you are then able to unfasten your helmet.
Run: A clearly signed and marshalled 5km loop. Competitors must give way to traffic, including
cyclists, when crossing roads. Please respect members of the public. Littering is prohibited.
Finish: The finish line is in the Triathlon Village. Return your timing chip in exchange for a medal. You
can obtain a printout of your result from the result tent.
Relay teams: Relay teams consist of 2 or 3 competitors doing one or more of the required
disciplines. All members of the relay team should attend the appropriate race briefing 15 minutes

before the start of their wave. The point at which team members handover to the next person is in
the transition zone. Handovers taking place outside of this area are ineligible. To complete a
handover, transfer the timing chip from the ankle of one competitor to the next. Teams are subject
to the same rules in transition and on the race course as all other competitors.
TriStars Aquathlon: Rules for both swim and run apply for the aquathlon. A course map is attached
below. Participants have to count their own laps for both swim and run.
Spectators: Spectators should not interfere with competitors at any point during the race and
transition is a strictly competitor only zone. The course is very spectator friendly though and we
encourage support of competitors. Due to space restrictions, spectators will only be allowed into the
pool viewing area for the wave of the competitor they are supporting, as well as one wave before
and after. Numbered spectator tickets will be included in the competitors race pack and these
should be used to gain entry to the pool.
Triathlon Village: The event will include a Triathlon Village adjacent to the finish line where
refreshments can be obtained from various outlets. Sports Massage will be available for purchase
and Total Fitness Nottingham will be on hand to provide you with any last minute kit or equipment.
Athletes and spectators alike are encouraged to make use of this area as it will be a vibrant race hub.
