Tuesday, May 2, 2017 • 8:10 p.m. MDT • Petco Park • San Diego, Calif.
RHP Tyler Chatwood (2-3, 4.88) vs. RHP Trevor Cahill (1-2, 4.50)
TV: ROOT SPORTS Rocky Mountain • Radio: KOA NewsRadio
WHO’S FIRST?
•The Rockies continue their six-game road trip
tonight in San Diego after taking the three-game
series in Arizona 2-1 … will return to Denver
postgame Thursday and begin a season-long,
10-game homestand against Arizona (three games),
Chicago-NL (three games) and Los Angeles-NL
(four games).
LONG ONE
•Colorado played and lost their first extra-innings
game of the season Sunday in Arizona.
•Lost on a walk-off two-run home run by former
Rockies infielder Daniel Descalso in the 13th
inning.
•Entered the 13th inning scoreless, marking the
second time in franchise history that a game went
as long as 12 innings and remained scoreless (also:
April 17, 2008 at San Diego, scoreless through 13
innings prior to both teams scoring in the 14th
inning in an eventual 2-1 Colorado win in 22
innings).
TO BE, RATHER THAN TO SEEM
•Greg Holland converted his 11th save of the
season Saturday … that is the most saves in the
month of April for a Rockies closer in franchise
history … the 11 saves tie the record for the most
saves in a single calendar month in Rockies history
(also: Brian Fuentes, 11 in May of 2007; Huston
Street, 11 in June of 2009).
•Converted the save in each of his first nine
appearances for the Rockies prior to pitching in
a non-save situation April 24 … he tied Darren
Holmes for the franchise record for saves in
consecutive appearances.
• According to Elias, the only other pitcher to save as
many games by the end of April in his first season
with a team was Lee Smith, who had 12 saves for
the Orioles in 1994.
LOOK AT US NOW
•Kyle Freeland and Antonio Senzatela are tied
for first among Major League rookie pitchers
with three wins and tied for second with three
quality starts … Senzatela ranks first with 32.0
innings pitched, Freeland ranks third with 27.0
innings pitched … Senzatela ranks first with a
2.81 ERA, Freeland ranks second with a 2.93 ERA
… Senzatela’s .223 batting average against ranks
second-lowest while Freeland’s .269 is third-lowest
in MLB.

ROCKIES AT A GLANCE
OUT ON THE TRAIL
•Colorado’s 3.31 road ERA (117.0 IP, 43 ER) is
second-best in the National League … their .226
batting average against on the road is the lowest in
the Major Leagues.
• The Rockies bullpen has a 2.28 ERA (47.1 IP, 12 ER)
on the road as compared to a 6.49 ERA (43.0 IP,
31 ER) in Denver … allowed 22 earned runs over
their last three games in Colorado after allowing
nine over their previous 10 contests at Coors Field
from April 7-24.
ALWAYS VIGILANT
• The Rockies will play their first of three series at
Petco Park this season beginning tonight.
• Hosted the Padres at Coors Field April 10-12 and
lost that series 2-1 for their first series loss of the
season.
• The Rockies went 10-9 against San Diego in 2016,
including a 4-6 record at Petco Park.
•DJ LeMahieu is a career .322 (85-for-264) hitter
against the Padres, the fifth-highest average against
San Diego among active players … in 2016, he went
22-for-63 (.349) with nine runs, seven doubles, one
triple, six RBI and seven walks against San Diego in
2016.
NEW PURPLE
•Rockies manager Bud Black managed the Padres
from 2007-2015, and finished with a final record
of 649-713 … he was named National League
Manager of the Year in 2010.
•Black played two seasons at San Diego State
University (1978-79) where he was teammates
with former Padre Tony Gwynn … was inducted
into the SDSU Aztec Hall of Fame in 1992.
• Alexi Amarista is the only Rockies player who has
been managed by Black both in San Diego and
Colorado, having been a member of the Padres
from 2012-16.
NAZTY
•Charlie Blackmon had his 14-game hitting streak
snapped Sunday … it is tied for the longest hitting
streak of his career (also: July 5-22, 2016) … batted
.362 (21-for-58) over that span with four doubles,
two triples, five home runs and 18 RBI.
IT’S STILL EARLY
•The Rockies’ 16-10 record, a .615 winning
percentage, is tied for the third-best start in
franchise history after 26 games … the 2011
Rockies went 17-9, and the 1997 club went 18-8.
• With a win tonight, the Rockies would be tied with
the 2011 club for the second-best record through
27 games.
ONE IS NOT THE LONELIEST NUMBER
• The Rockies are 8-0 in one-run games so far this
season, the only team in MLB to be undefeated in
one run games … went 12-20 in one-run games in
2016,
• The last team in MLB to start 8-0 in one-run games
was the 2004 Dodgers, who ran their streak of
one-run wins to 10-0.
YOU’RE GRAND
• On April 26, Carlos González played in his 1,000th
game as a member of the Rockies … he is the
sixth player to play 1,000 or more games with the
Rockies (also: Dante Bichette, Vinny Castilla, Todd
Helton, Troy Tulowitzki, Larry Walker).
•He currently has 199 career home runs with
Colorado, and would be the fifth player to hit 200
or more home runs with the Rockies (also: Dante
Bichette, 201; Vinny Castilla, 239; Todd Helton, 369;
Larry Walker, 258).
DEEP
• Nolan Arenado’s 118th career home run April 27
moved him into a tie with Brad Hawpe the for the
ninth-most home runs all-time for a Rockies player.
• Arenado’s 1.563 OPS against left-handed pitchers
this season ranks fifth in the Major Leagues.

ROCKIES STARTING PITCHER TYLER CHATWOOD
Height: 6-0
Weight: 185
Age: 27 (Dec. 16, 1989)
Born: Redlands, Calif.
Acquired: From Los Angeles-AL, Nov. 30, 2011
CHATGOOD
•The 27-year-old Redlands, Calif., native made his fourth career and second
consecutive Opening Day roster after missing all of 2015 due to recovery from
Tommy John surgery.
• Will be making his 103rd career appearance, 94th start tonight … has made 75
appearances, 68 starts with the Rockies since 2012.
• Has induced 51 ground balls this year, a 54.8 ground ball percentage that ranks
seventh in the National League … has induced four ground ball double plays, tied
for fourth-most in the NL.
LAST TIME OUT
• Was handed the loss April 26 vs. Washington, a 11-4 Rockies loss … pitched a
season-low five innings and allowed five runs on eight hits with three walks and
four strikeouts … the hits and runs allowed were both season-highs and the
three walks tied his season high.
• Allowed two home runs for the third time this season … allowed two home
runs only three times in the 2016 season … has allowed three or more home
runs nine times in his career.
FRIAR’S CLUB
• Will be making his ninth career start, 11th career appearance, vs. San Diego …
is 4-1 with a 4.50 ERA (50.0 IP, 25 ER), 20 walks and 39 strikeouts in his career.
• Was 3-0 with a 3.76 ERA (26.1 IP, 11 ER) vs. the Padres in 2016 … made two
starts at Petco Park and went 2-0 with one earned run in 14.2 innings pitched
(0.61 ERA) … pitched eight shutout innings in a 2-0 Rockies win on May 4.
• Is 3-0 with a 2.32 ERA (31.0 IP, 8 ER) in five career starts at Petco Park, four of
which have been quality starts … since 2013, is 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA (27.1 IP, 4
ER) at San Diego.
• Is one of five active opponents to be 3-0 or better in San Diego, joining Felix
Hernandez (5-0), Homer Bailey (4-0), Tom Koehler (3-0) and Charlie Morton
(3-0).
WITH EASE
• Pitched his first career complete-game shutout April 15 at San Francisco in a 5-0
Rockies win … allowed two hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
• Chatwood retired the first 17 batters in order, the second-longest perfect game
bid in franchise history … the Giants’ Chris Marrero broke up the perfect game
and no-hitter with a single to right field with two outs in the sixth inning … only
Bettis has gone longer among Rockies pitchers all-time, sitting down the first 18
hitters at Philadelphia on May 29, 2015.
• It was the seventh complete-game shutout by a Rockies pitcher while allowing
two hits or fewer … the most recent two-hitter prior to Chatwood was by
Chad Bettis, Sept. 5, 2016 vs. San Francisco at Coors Field.
• It was only the fifth Rockies complete-game shutout vs. the Giants and the third
at AT&T Park … Ubaldo Jimenez accomplished the feat on May 31, 2010 and Jeff
Francis blanked the Giants in San Francisco on Aug. 29, 2007.
• It was Chatwood’s second career complete game … he lost 1-0, allowing four
hits in eight innings, on July 13, 2013 at Dodger Stadium.

lowest road ERA in the Majors last season and the lowest in franchise history
among pitchers with 80.0 or more innings pitched … at home, went 4-8 with
6.12 ERA (78.0 IP, 53 ER), 34 walks and 56 strikeouts.
•Recorded a club-record 27.2-inning road scoreless streak April 6-May 21,
which was the longest by any Major League pitcher since Wade Davis’
28.2-inning stretch in 2014 (April 26-Sept. 25) … it was the longest such streak
by a Major League starter since Josh Beckett’s streak in 2014 (28.0 IP, May
25-July 22).
• Chatwood’s six-game win streak on the road (snapped at Philadelphia, Aug. 14)
was the longest road winning streak for the Rockies since Ubaldo Jimenez won
six consecutive games, Sept. 20, 2009-May 3, 2010.
• The streak of six quality starts on the road (April 6-June 18), which ended at
Miami June 18 with an injury, was the longest for the Rockies since Jhoulys
Chacin also recorded six consecutive quality road starts, May 27-Aug. 7, 2013

and a 5.04 ERA (200.0 IP, 112 ER).
