Year 6 project homework- Maya Project
Date set: 22/02/16 (Monday) Date due: 21/03/16 (Monday)
This project will be carried out over the next 4 weeks and you will complete a section of it
each week. After you have completed all the tasks you will combine your homework and
make it into a project/booklet. You will then share your findings with your teacher and
classmates.
In History this half term we will be focusing on the ‘Maya Civilization’. Your project is based
upon this and you will be finding information for secondary sources of information.
Take a look at the following guide to help you complete your project. Ensure you spread the
workload over the course of the 6 weeks so you can produce a high-quality product by the
end of the half term.
Your project will need to include:
 a front cover (title and your name)
 contents and index page, possibly a glossary
 5 pieces of work (see below for details)

 an introductory page that orients the reader about the project
 research an area of interest such as: school, home life, clothing, music or religion. Find
information about this chosen area and write out what you have learnt (in your own words
please)
 sketch an artefact from the Maya civilization. Annotate around the artefact sketch what
you believe it tells you about their way of life/society
 research Mayan art and make your own Mayan art piece.
 make you own Mayan mask or pyramid
 interesting facts – facts that you have found that you think no-one else will have found
 where in the world the Maya civilization was located (a map would be great here!)
Your project will need to have a combination of typed and hand-written work.
Remember to keep your work clear, informative and well-presented. It should be visual and
interesting for the person reading it.
