Welcome to 2017!
2016 was a rough year for
some and a good year for
others, but all your troubles
are behind you now because
you are officially in 2017
where your second chance at
things has begun. It’s time to
try to redo something that
you messed up last year or to
do something new that you
have always wanted to do. No
matter what, this year will be
a new exciting year for
everyone! So Happy New
Year, everyone!
Let’s kick 2016 outta here!

The seniors we chose to spotlight this week are Yaqueline Muniz and John Freeman.
We asked Yaqueline a couple of
questions. The first question we asked
was what her best memory from her
years at Texhoma High School is. She
said it was when she went to state in
Cross Country. Yaqueline’s most
embarrassing moment in high school
was crashing into a trash can while
running in Cross Country practice.
Seward County Community College is
where she plans on going to college.
When asked what she would miss most
about T.H.S., she said all the memories
with her friends. Mrs. Keenen is her
favorite teacher. After high school, she
plans to go to college and be successful.
Yaqueline’s sister is the person who
influenced her the most throughout
high school. Her last word to T.H.S. is,
“So long.”
This time around we interviewed senior
John Freeman. One of his favorite
memories from his four years at
Texhoma was the frog and the
shenanigans in Cooksey’s class. If he
could change one thing from his
freshman year, he would go back and
not blow up his finger in the weight
room. He plans to attend Oklahoma
State University and work towards an
Agribusiness or an Airmatics degree.
Then, he plans to travel the world. He
said he would miss making Jason
Martinez go to the gym, and being with
Cooksey. His last words to T.H.S.
are,”¯\_(ツ)_/¯,”.

Seiling Tournament!
By: Beatriz & Victoria.
Seiling Tournament started on
Thursday, January 5, 2017, with the girls
playing Canton. They came in short by
three with a score of 30 to 33. Later that
night, the boys competed against the
Seiling Wildcats. Even though they did
more than everyone expected, they still
took an L on that game. Friday
afternoon the girls once again faced the
Laverne Tigers and beat them. However
the boys didn’t get the win against Vici.
Saturday was an early morning for the
Texhoma boys and girls starting with the
boys playing Canton. It was a tough,
long game for both teams, yet our
Texhoma boys came on top in overtime.
The girls played right after the boys for
Consolation. They played Cimmaron and
it was a close match up the entire game
even with a double overtime, but Lady
Red Devils came in short and lost.

Ronda Rousey, the American mixed
martial artist, lost the fight to Amanda
Nunes on Friday night in Las Vegas at
UFC 207. If you thought Rousey’s loss to
Holly Holm in November of 2015 was
brutal, it’s nothing compared to this
lopsided rout. Nunes knocked Rousey
out in the first 48 seconds of the fight.
Everyone is now asking where this
leaves Rousey’s career. People have said
the emotional strain and pressure have
seemingly broken her. The moment
Rousey felt the power of Nunes’
punches, she checked out. It’s said
when a fighter gets to that point, it’s
time to retire. According to Forbes,
there are so many other things she can
do; her work in MMA is done. Rousey
has grown the sport for women in a way
that no one else has or ever will again,
but it’s time for her to move on to the
next chapter in her life.

Dark humor is like food: Not everyone gets it.
There's a lot of talk about starting families, but no one ever talks about finishing what
they started.
When I die, I want to be shot out of a cannon… and into a children's birthday party.
What has four legs and one arm? A doberman in a playground.
I bought my blind friend a cheese grater for his birthday. A week later, he told me it was
the most violent book he had ever read.
Where do you find a dog with no legs? Right where you left it.
Can orphans eat at a family restaurant?
