In your reading journal, write a RACER
strategy response identifying a theme in
your book and citing text evidence to
support your thinking.
Using the hard copy books in class
and the online book links found
under station 4, skim some Dr. Seuss
texts for figurative language.
Anytime you find an example, record
it in your reading journal. Be sure to
identify the type of figurative
language, how you know, and what
it means.
Once you have at least 10 examples
of figurative language, write a short
paragraph explaining why Dr. Seuss
includes figurative language in his
writing. How does figurative
language enhance his writing? How
could you use figurative language in
your own writing?
