FAST TRACK INSTRUCTOR
If you’d like to develop a career in the outdoors, our well-established fast track training programme could provide the ideal launch pad.
Over this intensive and exciting four-month training period you’ll work towards a clutch of National Governing Body Awards, gather a huge amount of
experience and develop your personal skills.
What’s more, when you leave you’ll take with you the respect and recognition that comes with having been trained at the National Mountain Centre
Rubbing shoulders with the instructors, you’ll stay in on-site accommodation seven days a week at Plas y Brenin, even though your course only runs Monday to Friday. That
way there will be options to either join in with other courses taking place at the weekends or simply go climbing or paddling with your new-found friends at the National
Mountain Centre. What’s more, you’ll enjoy three hearty meals a day, overlooking Snowdon in our scenic dining room.
FAST TRACK INSTRUCTOR
80 DAYS
During this intensive and exciting course you’ll receive personal skills training in kayaking, open canoeing, hill and
mountain walking, rock climbing, first aid, risk awareness and hazard management.
As part of a personalised programme, you may complete coaching and leadership training courses for the following CWA, SPA, HML, ML Summer, REC First Aid at Work, BCU/UKCC Level 1 Certificate and British Cycling Level 2 in
Mountain Bike Leadership Training.
For those with a greater range of experience, and perhaps some of the above qualifications, it may be possible to
work towards or complete some of the following - ML Winter, IML training, MIA training, BCU/UKCC Level 2
Certificate, BCU WW Safety and Rescue and REC First Aid Trainer.
At the end of four months with us you’ll be able to look back on an incredible experience, during which you will have:

BRYN ENGAN FARMHOUSE
If you’d like to enjoy the mountains, crags, trails, lakes and rivers of Snowdonia under your own steam, Bryn Engan Farmhouse allows you to do that in style and comfort. Just
across the river from the main cenre, the farmhouse’s location means you have easy access to the best North Wales has to offer. What’s more, if you choose to stay at Bryn Engan
Farmhouse you’ll be part of the unique atmosphere that makes The National Mountain Centre so special. You’ll be able to soak up that atmosphere in the bar, enjoy an evening
lecture or two and for a small fee make use of our impressive facilities, including a mountain bike skills course and pump track, two indoor climbing walls, an indoor heated canoe
rolling pool and our private lake and stretch of grade II rapids.
BRYN ENGAN FARMHOUSE
This lovingly restored farmhouse has recently been renovated to include first class single en-suite rooms, so you can
enjoy your four month stay in comfort.
Set in tranquil woodland across from the centre, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the peaceful and scenic
surroundings of Snowdonia. The farmhouse is situated adjacent to Bryn Engan Cottage and is a five minute walk from
the main centre. The farmhouse is accessed along a secure forest track from the main road with plenty of parking
outside.

Your course fee includes all of your meals in Plas y Brenin’s dining room but if you fancy a change you can cook your
meals in the well equipped, bright and modern kitchen.

There is a spacious living room with a 42 inch flat screen TV and several comfy sofas, which can be used either for
relaxing or as an informal classroom. There is free wireless internet access throughout.
BARBECUE / PATIO AREA
The farmhouse has its own efficient drying room so you can dry your kit easily ready for the next day.
EFFICIENT DRYING ROOM
Laundry facilities are available in the main centre, including a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Aside from the farmhouse’s unique facilities, the location is brilliant too. Set in the heart of the Snowdonia National
Park, Bryn Engan is ideally situated for hillwalking, whether you plan to enjoy a classic route or you’d just like to stride
away from the beaten track. The area also boasts some of the best climbing venues in the UK from wild mountain
crags to towering sea cliffs - all within easy reach. If paddling is your thing the farmhouse is in a great position for
rivers, open mountain lakes and spectacular coastal waters. And if mountain biking is on your list, there are endless
great rides right on your doorstep with the Marin trail nearby and a host of other single track trails, bridleways and
other recognised routes all around.
