Livestock and Project Show, shall not be held liable for any injuries or loss of property or livestock incurred while
exhibiting or attending the East Central FFA Livestock & Project Show.
Participation in the livestock show shall be limited to East Central High School Chapter members that are currently
enrolled in an East Central AgriScience Class and are in good standing with the East Central FFA Chapter and all Jr. FFA
members in good standing.
East Central High School students that are East Central FFA members & Jr. members must attend 75% of the East Central
FFA Chapter meetings held prior to the livestock show (August 1, 2016 to December 19, 2016) in order to participate in
the livestock show for 2016. Meetings will be listed on the East Central FFA calendar. Exceptions to this rule must be
approved by the East Central FFA Advisors prior to the member missing the meeting and not after.
Only East Central FFA members in good standing that have at least one (1) entry at the Bexar County Livestock Show, or
at least one entry in one of the major livestock shows in Texas (State Fair of Texas, Southwestern Livestock Show, San
Antonio, San Angelo, Houston, or Star of Texas) will be eligible to enter a livestock project in the East Central FFA
Livestock & Project Show.
Each Exhibitor’s family is required to sell (or purchase) at least 1-$25.00 add in the East Central Livestock & Project Show
Program. Families with more than 1 exhibitor within the immediate family will only be required to sell (or purchase) a
minimum of 1 add. All exhibitor’s families are encouraged to sell as many ‘adds’ as possible to help generate prize money
for this event.
Each exhibitor’s family is required to participate and work a minimum of 1 work-day or event. Those exhibitor’s families
(or exhibitor) not choosing to participate will not be able to exhibit at the East Central FFA Livestock and Project Show.
Tracking will begin August 2015. Verification will be handled through Booster Club with sign-in sheets.
All exhibitors and their family must sign the “East Central FFA Livestock Raisers Agreement Form”, make entry to the
East Central Livestock and Project Show during the October “Entry Meeting (10/5/16)”, and be properly validated. New
East Central FFA Exhibitors must have attended the New Feeders Meeting (August 31st). Returning East Central FFA
Exhibitors/Feeders they may attend a New Feeders Meeting or successfully completed the online exhibitors test by August
29, 2016.

9. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to bring the animal to weigh-in/sift and to have their animal at/in the showring when

the class or breed/species is called. Once judging of the class has commenced or weighing/sifting has concluded, no animal
may be brought forth to be considered. Once weighing/sifting has begun, no other animals will be allowed to enter the
barn. Emergencies must be handled through the superintendents. No complaint or protest will be heard for an entry that
was overlooked due to an exhibitor not being ready.
No unruly animals will be permitted. Unruly animals will be determined by the judge and/or superintendent and/or of that
species. If the animal is dismissed for being unruly, then that animal will not be eligible to compete for awards.
All protests must be in writing and accompanied by a deposit of $100.00 (cash), which will be forfeited if the protest is not
sustained. Such protest must be delivered to the General Superintendent WITHIN 30 MINUTES OF Division’s SHOW
CONCLUSION.
The single judge system will be the policy of placement for this show and the decision of the judge is final in all classes.
Prize money and/or class awards may be given to exhibitors after judging and before they leave the show ring.
A student may enter as many projects as they wish with the exception of poultry.
The student must raise and care for his/her projects at home, or at school, or at a facility agreed upon by the East Central
FFA Advisors.
All animals will receive ribbons and all of the animals in a class will receive prize money.
If there should be a class with one or two animals, the judge may or may not award a blue ribbon. He/She may place the

from which the Champion was selected, will then compete for Reserve Champion with the all other first place animals.
Grand and Reserve Champions will be awarded with buckles as donated in the following divisions: Breeding Cattle,
Breeding Swine, Breeding Goats, Breeding Sheep, Breeding Rabbits, Market Turkey, Market Broilers, Market Rabbits,
Market Goats, Market Steers, Market Lambs, Market Swine and Ag. Mechanics after they have completed their thank you
notes in the show office. However, if there are three or less animals showing in a division, a Champion and Reserve
Champion buckle may or may not be awarded. Awards will be determined by the availability of sponsors.
Showmanship buckles will be awarded to the top showman in each species with the exception of poultry.
All rules will be strictly enforced.
Trim chutes may be setup in the other outside designated areas.
All vehicles must be parked in designated parking areas only.
No hay may be used as bedding.
All breeding animals must be owned solely by the exhibitor and must have original registration papers proving their
ownership by the dates and guideline set forth by the San Antonio Livestock Exposition Jr. Show. The only exception is if
an animal is a scramble project for that school year; animals then may have an official scramble copy of their registration
papers and/or may be co-owned by a livestock show.
An exhibitor in the Showmanship Contest, must have an entry in that division in order to compete in that showmanship
event.
Example: A Showman in the Market Steer Showmanship, must have had a Market Steer entry and have shown that entry in
that division in order to be eligible to complete in the Market Steer showmanship Contest. This does not make that
exhibitor eligible in any other category, unless the exhibitor has other species that he has exhibited at the East Central FFA
Livestock and Project Show.
All animals should only be groomed and fitted show-day by the exhibitor, other East Central FFA Members, and the
immediate exhibitor’s family.
Buckles and Banners will be awarded after thank you letters are completed by the exhibitor in the show office. “Thank
You” letter stationary will be provided by the East Central Livestock and Project Show office.
Animals or ag mechanic projects will not be allowed to leave the grounds until the conclusion of the entire show each day
with the exception of poultry and rabbits.
Violation of any rule is subject to the exhibitor being disqualified and loss of awards and money.
Market Steer Division
1. All Steers must be validated through the State Validation program by the exhibitor.
2. All Steers will be shown in according to British, American or Exotic. Steers will be further divided into similar weight
classes by the Superintendents of the Market Steer Division.
3. All steers will be classified into Exotic, British or American by the show judge during the weigh-in period.
4. The minimum weight for steers is 800lbs with no weight tolerance. There is no maximum weight limit.
5. No grooming materials may be applied to the animals and will be “white towel tested”. Those not passing the “white
towel” test will not be allowed to show. This is BLOW and GO Show. If your steer is disqualified for grooming materials
it is not eligible for awards, prizes or further consideration.
6. Must have an entry in the Market Steer division to be eligible for the Market Steer Showmanship Contest.
Breeding Cattle Division

All Heifer must be validated through the State Validation program by the exhibitor, unless a commercial female.
Classes of Breeding Beef will consist of females only.
Breeding beef cattle must be owned by November 1, 2016, be registered with their respective Breed Associations and have
ownership or transfer in the exhibitor’s name by November 1, 2016 in accordance with the San Antonio Livestock
Exposition Jr. Heifer Show. Additionally, all females must be state validated if registered. If state validated, then the must
show in the registered heifer division not the commercial division. All exhibitors must show original registration papers
with the exception of scramble heifers. Scramble animals may present a photocopy of their registration papers with the
livestock show stamp indicating it is a scramble animal.

Commercial Heifers, can not be state validated, must follow Bexar County rules for the Commercial Heifer Show and will
show in 1 age division. This division is for non-registered females only.
All calves shown on the side of cows must be eligible for registration as stated in the rules of the San Antonio Livestock
Exposition Jr. Heifer Show.
All Breeding Cattle will classified according to British, American, Exotic or Commercial.
All Breeding Cattle will show in the following classes with exception of Commercial females:
a. Under 1 year of age
b. 1 to 2 years of age
c. Over 2 years of age, but not older than September 1, 2014
No grooming materials may be applied to the animals and will be “white towel tested”. Those not passing the “white
towel” test will not be allowed to show. This is BLOW and GO Show. If your heifer is disqualified for grooming materials
it is not eligible for awards, prizes or further consideration.

Market Swine Division
1. All Market Swine must be validated through the State or county validation program by the exhibitor. No fresh ear- notches
will be accepted.
2. Classes of Market Hogs will be made according to similar weights according to the following breeds: Dark OPB, Duroc,
Hampshire, Light OPB, Yorkshire and Cross.
3. Classification will be determined at weigh-in by the swine committee.
4. There will be no minimum weight limit for the Market Swine Show and no maximum weight limit.
5. Grooming products will be limited to water only.
6. No clipping of hogs on the grounds beginning December 17, 2016.
7. No Boars will be allowed in the Market Division.
8. Must have an entry in the Market Swine Division to be eligible for the Market Swine Showmanship Contest.
Breeding Swine Division

This will be a female only show.
Classes will be made according to breeds and age.
Breeding swine must be owned by November 1, 2016, registered with their respective Breed Associations and have
ownership or transfer in the exhibitor’s name by December 1, 2016 in accordance with the San Antonio Livestock
Exposition Jr. Breeding Gilt Show.
4. All exhibitors must have original registration papers with the exception of official scramble gilts. Scramble animals may
present a photocopy of their registration papers with the livestock show stamp indicating it is a scramble animal. All
animals entered in the Breeding Swine Division are required to have registration papers with the exception of scramble
papers.
5. BREEDS- Only purebred Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, Poland China, Spotted Poland China,
and Yorkshire will be shown.
6. Classes will be:
a. July – Pigs farrowed in July
b. August - pigs farrowed in August
c. September– pigs farrowed September 1st- 10th.
7. Breeding hogs with fresh ear notches will not be eligible to show. A fresh ear notch is any notch that has a scab and/or is
not completely healed.
8. Grooming products will be limited to water only. Animals may be randomly white towel tested by swine committee. Those
failing the test will be disqualified.
9. No clipping of hogs on the grounds beginning December 17, 2016.
10. Must have an entry in the Breeding Swine Division to be eligible for the Breeding Swine Showmanship Contest.

Market Goat Division

All Market Goats must be validated through the state or county validation program by the exhibitor.
Must be a wether (castrated billy) or doe (female) goat to be eligible to show in the Market Goat Division.
No minimum or maximum weight limit.
Market goats must be body-clipped (slick sheared) in accordance to the Bexar County Rules for 2016.
Market goats must be shown in collars, halters or chains.
Classes will be broke into weight classes based on the animals that are weighed in.
Exhibitors are required to have horns tipped blunt on all goats before showing where the end of the horn must be larger
than a dime.
Must have an entry in the Market Goat Division to be eligible for the Sr. FFA Market Goat Showmanship Contest
Boer Breeding Goat Division

This will be a female only show.
All exhibitors have original registration papers with the exception of official scramble breeding goats. Scramble animals
may present a photocopy of their registration papers with the stockshow stamp indicating it is a scramble animal. All
animals entered in the Breeding Goat Division are required to have registration papers, show proof of original registration
papers in the exhibitors name only.
Percentage & Fullblood goats will show in separate division. The Champion and Reserve Champion Fullblood will show
against the Champion and Reserve Champion Percentage for Champion and Reserve Champion Breeding Goat.
Goats will be divided into the following age classes:
a. Under 1 year
b. Over 1 year, but not older than 2 years of age on the date of show.
All breeding goats must show in halters, collars or chains.
Must have an entry in the Breeding Goat Division to be eligible for the Breeding Goat Showmanship Contest.
Market Lamb Show Division

Lambs will be classified by the judge at the time of judging. Any lamb entered in the wrong class will be reclassified into
the proper class.

Fine Wool: Only Delaines and Rambouillet or crosses of these two breeds may be shown in this division.
Fine Wool Crosses: Will be typical first cross of Finewool with a Suffolk, Hampshire, Corriedale or

Medium Wool: Hampshire, Suffolk, and all other grades and crosses except Southdown and Shropshire
Southdown and Shropshire grades and crosses
Dorper: haired sheep
There will be no minimum or no maximum weight for lambs.
After classes are divided by Breed Type, they will be divided into light and heavy weights, provided there are enough
entries.
All lambs must be slick shorn to the skin above the knee and hock joints, with no more than ¼ inch of wool/hair in length
before showing.
Must have an entry in the Market Lamb Division to be eligible for the Lamb Showmanship Contest
Breeding Sheep Division

All animals entered in the Breeding Lamb Show are required to have registration papers, present original registration
papers in the exhibitors name only.

animals entered in the Breeding Sheep Division are required to have registration papers, show proof of original registration
papers in the exhibitors name only, with the exception of scramble lambs.

Market Rabbits Division

Rabbits must be owned and cared for by the student by the time of the Bexar County Rabbit Validation.
Rabbits must have ‘meat type’ carcasses (examples of breeds that meet this classification are Californian and New Zealand
breeds)
Rabbits will be judged based on their ARBA Standard of Perfection (most current issue) and overall finished carcass.
Disqualification based on their standard of perfection will apply.
An entry will consist of a pen of 3 rabbits. All rabbits should be the same breed and similar in weight and confirmation.
Each rabbits must weigh between 2 and 4 pounds on the day of the show.
All Market Rabbits must abide by the current rabbit validation rules for the Bexar County Livestock Show.
Rabbits may not be over 70 days of age.
Must have an entry in either the Market Rabbit Division or the Breeding Rabbit Division to be eligible for the Rabbit
Showmanship Contest.
Breeding Rabbit Division

There will be classes for Bucks and Does in the following groups:
a. Classes for all breeds under a 9 pound minimum senior ideal weight are:

All Breeding Rabbits must be solely owned by November 1, 2016 and be the current owner on the registration papers.
Rabbit classes to be governed by rules of ARBA Standard of Perfection (most current issue).
A Champion and Reserve Rabbit will be selected, not a Best of Show and Best Opposite.
Must have an entry in either the Market Rabbit Division or the Breeding Rabbit Division to be eligible for the Sr. FFA
Rabbit Showmanship Contest.
Poultry Division
1.
There will be two (2) divisions, Turkey and Broiler. Turkeys will have two (2) classes, Turkey Toms and Turkey Hens.
The Toms and Hens will compete against each other for Champion and Reserve Champion Turkey. There will be two
classes of broilers-Cockerels and Pullets and the champions from both classes will compete against each other or
Champion and Reserve Champion Broilers.
2. Only 2 entries per division will be permitted.
3. A broiler entry will consist of a single bird, not a pen of 3 birds.
4. Broilers must have a Bexar County wing band in place at the time of judging.
5. Turkeys must have the state show 2017 wing band in place at the time of judging.
6. No weight limits on turkeys and broilers.
7. All poultry must arrive on the show grounds by 4:30 pm and be prepared to show by 5:00 pm on December 17, 2016 or
they will not be eligible to show.
8. All Poultry will be released at the completion of the poultry show.
9. Any FFA Member may assist in holding broilers or turkeys during judging, no adults.
10. Poultry will be shown ‘out of the box’, no cages will be provided.
11. Judges will sex the birds during the class.
Ag Mechanics Division

1. All projects must have been constructed by the FFA member or FFA Members (in case of a group entry) within one calendar
year.
2. Group Entries: Group entries must be made in the names of the individuals making entry including those exhibitors who
participated in planning and construction of the project. Group entries are considered to be those that are constructed by two or more
students.
3. Individual/Group: Projects may have been individually or group constructed and may be individually or group owned.
4. Number of Entries: Individual and/or groups may enter as many projects as they wish, however if they have more than 2 entries
in the class-they will only be awarded their highest 2 placings.
5. Exhibit Space: Projects will be displayed by classes. Placement of the projects will be at the discretion of Superintendent of the
Ag. Mechanics Division. Display space under shelter is not guaranteed.
6. Construction Date: A project may be exhibited only one time at the East Central FFA Livestock and Project Show and must
have been constructed within one calendar year of the exhibition date.
7. Types of Projects: Only those projects that fit into the stated classes will be accepted. Final project classification will be at the
discretion of Superintendents of the Ag. Mechanics Division.
8. Vehicles: No trucks, non-entered tractors, or other vehicles (including non-entered trailers) are allowed in the exhibit area as part
of the display unless approved by the Superintendents of the Ag. Mechanics Show.
9. Project Completeness: All projects should be complete including finish. Any item, necessary for use of the project, must be a
part of it (example: hinges and latches on gates and panels).
10. Project Presentation: Items to be considered are:
A) Neatness of project - Clean and free of dust and debris.
B) Neatness of surroundings - Includes floor under and around the project.
C) Documentation - Presented in a manner that judges and the public can view it.
D) Signs - Must be appropriate, easy to read, and not too large as to take unusual space.
E) Exhibitor Card - Attached to the front center of the project. It is recommended to attach the card with Carton Sealing
Clear Plastic Film Tape (duct, electrician, masking or scotch tape are not appropriate). Should be displayed neatly and in a
location that is highly visible.
F) Safety - All safety procedures must be adhered to when displaying projects.
G) Clutter - Exhibitors should confine paraphernalia, chairs, show boxes, cleaning supplies, brooms, and wiping rags to
their assigned display area.
H) Painting/Scratches - No enamel paint is allowed in the barn. Judges will be instructed to make allowances for
scratches or damage due to transportation.
11. Exhibitors Presentation: Items to be considered are:
A) Attire - Exhibitors should be dressed appropriately and be with their project when it is judged.
B) Sportsmanship - Exhibitors should be courteous and helpful to those viewing their project, including those exhibiting
next to them. Exhibitors should not interfere with or shield those who are exhibiting next to them.
C) Knowledge – Exhibitors should be available to answer questions when their project is being judged. Knowledge of the
project will be evaluated at this time. Exhibitors should be well informed of the project they are representing, but should
not be boisterous or argumentative.
Note: An approximate judging schedule for each class will be posted, but it is the exhibitor’s responsibility to be present if the
schedule should be changed. Changes will be announced or posted in advance when possible. At least one chapter/club exhibitor
should be available to answer questions from the public or show officials including showmanship at all times.
D) Exhibit Aids - Exhibitors should provide any equipment that may be necessary to judge their project (flashlights, mat
or creeper for judging projects that the judge would need to get underneath). Exhibitors may be requested to hold
measuring tape and assist the judge in making measurements on project.

12. Documentation: An original working plan or drawing, photographs showing stages of construction and a bill of materials are
required with each project. Additional documentation may be required for plans of vehicles that are used on public
highways (rule16) ASAE standards must be met on three point hitch and PTO Operated equipment(rule 17). The following

also be accessed from the IMS web page.
A) Working Drawing - Should include an original multi-view orthographic projection drawn to a
given scale with proper lettering and dimensioning. Dimensioning shown on drawing should be
specific and complete enough for it
to be apparent that drawing was used to plan and construct project. Judges will spot check
dimensions on projects to see if they comply with drawings. Drawing may be a CAD (Computer
Aided Design). Pictorials, isometric oblique, or perspective may be included.
B) Bill of Materials: Must include a list or a description of material, including quantity, size,
and cost. Other as date of purchase, vendors name and/or Purchase Order Number, etc. may be
included.
C) Photographs - Showing work in progress should depict proper safety procedures including
clothing, eye and face shields, etc. Photographs should be sequenced in the order of constructing
the project. Any project not having will be disqualified. Any project not having all three
documents will be placed down a ribbon.
13. Safety:
Display: Appropriate and safe display stands are to be provided for gates, panels, and other projects that need support.
Sharp edges and points; such as found on self-feeder roofs, bale movers, etc.; are to be padded and/or covered as necessary
to prevent possible injury.
Transportation: All trailers and other equipment that will be operated and/or transported on public roads must be
equipped with safety equipment specified in Title 7, Vehicles and Traffic Transportation Code of the Texas Statues.
Specific chapters regarding Width (621.201), Lights & Reflectors (547.322, 547.323, 547.324, 547.325, and 547.332),
Brakes (547.401 and 547.402), Length (621.204) and Inspection (548.052) must be adhered to Agriculture Exceptions –
No Agriculture Exemptions for the following:
A) All tongue trailers must have approved safety chains. Information regarding approved Materials and
attachment method may be obtained via web page.
B) All gooseneck trailers must have approved safety chains and brake-away equipment. Any trailer that
is over wide (102 inches) must have a signed permit. Trailers widths will be measured from metal to
metal. Tire will not be considered in width except when tire tread extends beyond the fender. Hubs/caps
must not extend beyond tire bulge/cheek. Any trailer that does not meet these requirements will be
disqualified.
14. ASAE: All three-point hitch and/or PTO operated equipment must meet the latest ASAE (The society for engineering in
agricultural, food, and biological systems) standards. Power take-off equipment must meet ASAE standard S203, Rear Power TakeOff for Agricultural Equipment. All semi-mounted or mounted equipment must meet ASAE standard S217, Three-Point Free Link
Attachment for Hitching Implements to Agricultural Wheel Tractors.
15. Signs: All projects are to be identified with standard club exhibitor cards. Additional signs, banners, etc. are encouraged, but
are subject to approval. No "For Sale" signs are permitted.
16. Loss or Damage: Every precaution will be taken to protect the projects, however, neither the East Central FFA Livestock or
Project Show nor the officials of this division will be responsible for any loss or damage to projects.
17. Projects with Engines: No more than two gallons of fuel in any fuel tank is allowed. The fuel tank cap is to be in place and
sealed with tape and the battery, if equipped, is to be disconnected. Tractors in the restoration division may have up to five gallons
of fuel in the fuel tank.

18. Projects Needing Offloading Assistance: Projects that must be hoisted from the top-side are to be fitted with lifting eyes at
balance points that will accommodate one inch shackles. Projects that, in the opinion of Show officials, cannot be safely off-loaded
with equipment available will be shown at an alternate site.
19. Awards will be awarded based upon donations received for the show. Only 1 Buckle will be awarded to the Champion
Project.
20. Rules for these project contests are based on the Bexar County Ag Mechanic Contest Rules.
