RULES OF PLAY FOOTY INDOORS IS A FAST FREE FLOWING GAME WITH NO OUT OF BOUNDS. There is Strictly No: Holding Deliberate Bumping Tripping Shepherding Punching the ball from an opponent's possession A team consists of: Numbers per team U/8 &U/10 (5) plus (1) interchange U/12 (6) plus (1) interchange Tackling Pushing Charging In all competitions there is one (FF)(Full Forward) and one (FB)(Full Back) for each team, with the number of (C)(Centre) players making up the balance of each team. A game consists of (4) 9 min. quarters with breaks in between of 1 min at ¼ and ¾ time and 2 min at half time. There is a 5 minute only break between games. There is no time on added to each (9) min. quarter. Teams kick to opposite ends after half time. Starting/Restarting the game. The ball-up. At the beginning of each quarter, and after each goal is scored, the game restarts with a centre ballup, with one (C) only, from each team, contesting. The ball may only be palmed by either of the (2) contestants, with an open hand. Is cannot be punched or grabbed from the ruck contest. Both contestants must have (one) foot touching the centre line prior to the ball up. The ruck contestants must line up in their respective attacking halves. The ball must not be impeded from reaching, the top of its upward arc by either ruck contestant, at the centre ball-up. At all centre ball-ups, the (FF) & (FB) of each team must remain in their designated goal circles, until the ball leaves the umpires hands. Scoring Scoring is only allowed from the attacking half of the court, with all players able to score points for their team except the (FB). (see player zones). The penalty for a breach of this rule is turn over of possession. The player standing the mark to be on the half line. The scoring system is-: Goal (6) points Behind (1) point Good by (FF) must "stand out". A goal is scored when the ball hits the goal scoring zone without touching the goal posts, directly from the foot (below the knee) of an attacker. Play restarts with a ballup. A behind is scored when the ball hits: 1. The behind scoring zone, including the goal post, by the hand, foot or otherwise of an attacking or defending player or 2. The goal-scoring zone, not from an attackers foot. Play restarts with the (FB) kicking in from within his goal circle. The (FF) must "stand out". "Play on" will be called, when the ball hits the behind post. The team with the highest score at the end of the 4th quarter is the winner. Possession Diving on the ball to gain possession is prohibited. When (2) players hold equal possession of the ball, a ball up between those (2) players is used to restart the game. Disposal A player in possession of the ball has (4) seconds to dispose of it by either handball or kick. In that time, the player may only take (5) steps in the direction of their own goals. This rule does not limit the steps taken in any other direction. The player in possession is not required to bounce the ball, at any time. A loose ball below shoulder height may not be intentionally scored or knocked forward by hand. A loose ball above shoulder height may be knocked forward by open hand Dispossessing an Opponent A player may attempt to dispossess an opponent by knocking the ball from their possession with an open hand. Punching or racking the ball to dispossess is strictly prohibited. Player Zones o The (FF) & (FB) players cannot at any stage cross the half line. o Only the respective (FF) & (FB) can enter the (2) goal circles, otherwise possession is turned over. o This however does not limit the (FF) from scoring from anywhere else in the attacking half. o The (FB) and (C) stands the mark on the edge of the circle for a defensive circle breach by a (C), at the point nearest the breach. (i.e. the angle to be maintained Free Kicks A free kick is given against any player who makes deliberate or accidental contact, on an opponent, or infringes on any other rule. Contact also includes charging, which is defend as contact on a player not in possession of the ball, who has both feet stationary. The infringing player must "stand out" immediately. For a free kick awarded in defense, all other opponents must maintain a (5) metre No Go zone from around the mark. The position of the mark to be (5) meters goal ward of the infringement. For a free kick awarded in attack a teammate of the "stand out" player may stand on the mark. A play on "Advantage" is paid to the team is possession, if the awarding of the free kick would disadvantage the team. A player awarded possession by a free kick must dispose of the ball by foot. A (5) or (10) metre penalty, can be applied for time wasting. Marking When a player marks the ball from a kick, the opposing player standing the mark must move (5) meters back from the position the mark was taken. This must be immediate. If after (2) requests, this has not occurred, the offending player is told to "stand out". The ball rebounding from a net or wall "does not" void a mark. There is no minimum length a kick must travel, for a mark to be awarded. A player marking the ball may play on. The awarding of a mark is always up to the umpire’s discretion. Standing Out A player requested to "Stand Out" must stand next to the player in possession and not defended until the disposal in made. In a "Stand Out" situation, the player in possession cannot play on. Get Rid of It The player with the ball must legally dispose of it within (1) second of the umpire calling "Get rid of it". This will be called when a player has already possessed the ball for more than (3) seconds. Uncontested High Ball (For Recreational Centre Play only.) When Footy Indoors is played without rood nets, and the ball is falling directly vertically from the great height, to avoid certain player contact, the player directly under the fall of the ball, must be allowed first play of the ball. Ball in the corner The first player to arrive at a loose ball in any corner of the court has a half metre No Go zone around them to enable easier flow o of play. This rule is designed to provide a safer situation for both the attacker and defender. Player Interchange o To assist the smooth running of the game, it is desired that all interchange and player positions changes be contained to three (3) breaks between quarters. Two additional interchanges per team per quarter is permitted during play however, which must satisfy the (3) conditions listed below: 1. It must be a straight bib swap, no position changes are allowed. 2. It must be done immediately upon the scoring of a goal by either team. 3. The umpires must be notified as the change occurs. An injured player can be interchanged at any time, again with the umpire to be notified. The blood Rule A player bleeding must be immediately interchanged and cannot return until the bleeding is controlled, cleaned and/or covered up. Banned Items It is strictly prohibited to wear peaked caps, jewelry (including watched) and all other foreign items, whilst playing. Soft protective head gear and soft supporting joint braces are the only exceptions permitted. Indoor Umpire Cards A set of (3) coloured plastic cards is carried by the accredited umpire controlling the match. The cards are shown to players omitting various rule and behavior breaches, and they carry the following penalties-: Green card Given for a deliberate rules breach or an act considered foolish or dangerous, at the discretion of the umpire. Penalty-: warning (only one green card allowed per player, each match). Yellow card Given to a player for deliberate act considered to require a higher penalty than a warning, again at the discretion of the umpire. (i.e. holding, pushing, tackling, swearing). Also given to a player for a (2nd) green card offense. Penalty-: The player leaves the court for a minimum of (3) minutes and is recalled at the umpire’s discretion. (No replacement player is allowed). Red card Given to a player for a serious rules breach or a (2nd) yellow card offence. (i.e. Tripping, charging). Penalty-: The player is ejected from the game and takes no further part. (No replacement player is allowed). An automatic (2) match suspension applies.
