Purpose of Assignment

Each student has to submit PowerPoint slides and a written report that discusses
and illustrates the opportunities, challenges, and career path in his major or field (IT,
Business, Engineering) within a selected company.
This assignment not only aims at getting students to explore the nature and
challenges of their majors, but it also aims at giving the chance to express such
issues through written and verbal communication where they can use different
techniques, media, and technology.
This assignment will also help students identify the possible career choices across
different industries available within their specific major. It will also help provide them
with steps to guide their academic progress towards their career goals.

Instructor will introduce the subject via in-class lectures using PowerPoint.
Students must perform original research to find online articles, reports, and
different resources that will assist them in understanding career paths, paths
within a specific company of their choice, and the process involved in making
career decisions.
Students will be provided examples of quality presentations and written reports from
previous PMU semesters.
Requirements
PowerPoint Presentation
1. Time limit of 4-5 minutes
2. PowerPoint: 7 slides with 4 or 5 bullets on each slide
3. Prepare attractive slides that add to your presentation. Use a picture, table, graph or
diagram on most of the slides.
4. Explain each key point on each of your slides
5. DO NOT cut and paste your report into your slides.
6. Students who fail to present their PP slides within the class time allotted will fail this
portion of the assignment.
7. Include the following slides in your presentation:
Slide 1: My Career Path at ------------ (name of company)
Title slide with the assignment name, student’s name, major and ID, company
logo
Slide 2: Outline
Outline of the slides in your presentation.
Slide 3: Background of the Company
History of the company, location, its founding year, its main products, its
markets, number of employees.
Slide 4: Opportunities at the Company
Opportunities you will have available to you when you join the company such
as further training, accommodation, promotions, working overseas, and salary
increases.
Slide 5: Challenges and Demands at the Company
Challenges and demands that you may encounter in the workplace during a
career at the company such as extra study, learning new skills, and shift
work.

Four job positions in you may pass through on a career path at the company.
For each job position give the name of the position, special certificates
needed, particular skills or training you will need, and the number of years
you should work in the position before you can advance up to the next
position.

here.

Written Report
1. The report must use your own language and should specify the reference(s) from
which the information is taken. If you cut and paste a sentence you must use
quotation marks and write the author, year, and page number in brackets in the text
after the quotation.
2. The report must:
• have a cover page
• use Times New Romans, font size: 11-12
• have a spacing of 1.5-2 between lines,
• be at least 900 words (not including the cover page and reference list)
• start each paragraph with a topic sentence
• be written in the first person (use “I” or “my” or “me”)
• use full sentences and paragraphs (not bullet points)
3. The report must use the following headings:
Introduction
Include a clear thesis statement, justify the importance of the assignment, a
reference to justify assignment, your major, outline what topics the report will cover
Background of the Company
Briefly describe the history of the company, location, its founding year, its main
products, its markets, its number of employees.
Opportunities at the Company
Describe the opportunities you will have available to you when you join the
company. Look at opportunities such as further training, accommodation,
promotions, working overseas, and salary increases. Give specific examples.
Challenges and Demands at the Company
Describe the challenges and demands that you may encounter in the workplace
during a career at the company. Give specific examples.

Career Path at the Company
This section must be one full page (300+ words). Describe possible career path
stages you may have at the company. Focus on four job positions in such a career
path. For each job position give the name of the position, special certificates needed,
particular skills or training you will need, and the number of years you should work in
the position before you can advance up to the next position. (If you use a table you
must explain its contents).
Conclusion
Restate the thesis statement, include a summary of the key points from the body
paragraphs, and say how these key points answer the assignment
References
Include at least 3 references. The references can be from e-brary, books,
newspapers, or the internet (but not lecture slides). You must cite the author and
year in the text of the essay. Also, you must list the author, year, article or book title,
and publisher under References at the end of the essay.

Presentation and written assignments not uploaded, or uploaded incorrectly, will not
be accepted and will receive zero on that portion of the assignment.
As per the delivery plan, your presentations will be given in class. All presentations
must be uploaded on Blackboard by 11:55pm on the due date. Check above for the
official due date for your section. Presentations uploaded after this time will not
be accepted, and students whose presentations are not uploaded will be graded out
of 50% for the assignment.
Presenters not ready to present in class, or who do not give their presentation during
the assigned class period, but still upload their presentation to Blackboard on time,
will be graded out of 50% for that portion of the assignment.
Written report assignments uploaded after the due date and time will be considered
late, and receive 50% off the available grade. Reports more than three days late will
not be accepted, for any reason.
