Setting up the Plymouth Colony
The Pilgrims landed on Cape Cod,
Massachusetts. It is here on the East Coast
of America, that they decided to settle and
create a new life. Here, they were able to
practice their religion away from the eyes of
the English church. They named this colony,
‘Plymouth’. The Plymouth colony was one of
the earliest North American settlements to be
founded by the English - it is from here that
the exploration of America began. Although
this was not the first settlement of English
people in America, the Plymouth colony and
the events that occurred here are important
in US folklore.
