Please bring your suitcases with you on Friday morning and leave them near the office by the foyer phone. We will load up into Mrs. Grey’s, Mrs. Nelson’s, and Mrs. Cook’s vehicles by 10A. Costs are: $22 to be paid to Mrs. Kiser directly. Also bring along money for fast-food lunch on Friday. No other money is necessary unless wanting to buy snacks on their own. Parents are invited to the Saturday concert which begins at 1:30P in the Centennial Chapel which seats 300. The concert will feature two choirs, an orchestra, and two bands. After the concert, students are to return home with parents around 3:30P. The concert is free, and a recording of the concert will be available on DVD for $5.00. Please be sure to turn in the Medical Authorization form. This is required for every student and chaperone attending. Please pray for a speedy recovery for her! * Mrs. Wolbrecht has also been sick! Praying for you! Kindergarten Tidbit - Mrs. Whitlock We still need baby pictures (2x3 approx.) for our science books. Also we will compare length and weight of the children at birth and now. Please send in our child’s weight and length at birth. We will finish up God’s Plan for Me and start God’s Plan for Weather in Science. In Numbers we will review before and after numbers including 20-29. Time will be reviewed to o'clock and half past (30) along with addition of 15 on the clock. We will concentrate on the addition facts 1-7 families. 63-100 will be reviewed, along with counting by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s. The quarter was introduced last week but we learn more about the quarter. We will look at what is involved in making a calendar. The game “Around the Room in 30 seconds” helps us review number facts and see how fast we can recite accurately numbers and facts about numbers. In Phonics “spr”, “scr”, “str” and “spl” special sounds will be introduced. We will listen to words with special sounds to identify and write the special sound. The sight word “you” will be introduced. We will read and mark words for the vowel sounds and special sounds. There will be a blend writing evaluation this week. We will practice letters, words and sentences using F,f , M,m and R,r in Handwriting. Skills and Language development will include floor and table puzzles, play dough for motor coordination. We will look at “to be kind” for Character Development and listening skills will be practiced. In Bible we will discuss the “Good Samaritan” story. Compassion and thoughtfulness to others will be role played. Students will name ways they have been shown compassion and how they can show compassion . We will look for and demonstrate kindness throughout our day. We will ask God to help us show love to everyone even to people that are hard to love. Our memory verse is “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:34 Please look for a special note coming home in the B.E.E. binder. 2nd Grade - Miss Luft Congratulations to all who participated in the ACSI Speech Contest in Peoria on Friday! Everyone did an awesome job! We are learning about Jesus as the “Good Shepherd” in Bible class this week. Our verse is Matthew 9:36, “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Students need to memorize this verse by Friday. This week in math class we are working on counting out a certain amount of money, using the fewest bills and coins, the sixteen addition family, and multiplying by 4’s. In English class we are learning about adjectives. Our spelling test over list 26 will be on Friday. Third Grade - Mrs. Scott I was so very proud of our speech contestants! They are all winners in my book! In third grade this week, we're studying in Bible class how Paul was converted after persecuting the believers. We are memorizing Mark 16:15, He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” This verse is so very important to motivate us to tell others that Jesus was willing to die on the cross to pay for our sin! His love and forgiveness is so amazing. Can you believe He wants us to be part of His family so much?! In Math, we are testing over fractional parts of a number and our 8's and 9's times tables. Tomorrow is a huge test day! We will have a test in math, spelling, and history. Our history test will be over William Penn, Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. We are looking at the map of the United States and learning 11 of the states. The children have been quite distracted with hunger from doing well in their school work so please remember snacks are available for 25 cents if you are interested. If your child brings a snack that would also be fine. I'm tentatively thinking about Friday, April 8th for our field trip to the Zoo. We are also thinking about a field trip in May to a museum with the first and second graders. Fourth Grade - Mrs. Odell Our Scripture passage this week is still Romans 12:9-21 We are looking forward to a wonderful time at the Ag Fair! We will leave next Thursday morning, March 17, at 8:15 and go to the Bureau County Fair Grounds. We will be back by 11:30. (Would you like to drive? ) Any time we get a chance, we should thank our area farmers for their contributions to our community, our homes, and our lives! The children are successfully working on their state notebooks, but they are in need of some homework on them. Even though they are not complete, I would like them to be on display next Friday evening. We are on the oceanography chapter in science. We’ll test on list 26 in spelling and begin 27 tomorrow. We’re still working on verbs in English. 6th - 8th Grade Science - Mr. Cornman 6th - Choosing Good Health - God’s Word on Disease. Looking at the biblical frame of mind, immunity shutdown, the wonder of God’s glory, and ending chapter 5 with your personal responsibilities. 7th - Working on Science Fair projects of one-celled wonders, microscopic mysteries, flexible flagellates and falsefooted sarcodines. 8th - Working on Science Fair projects. Let’s Be Healthy Books: Kitchen Cleanliness, Infectious Fleas. Ending Unit 2, finishing with quizzes and test. History, Language Arts, Grammar, 7/8 Spanish - Mrs. Cook History: 6th graders will test on Friday over Chapter 13. Students going to the ACSI will need to make this test up on Monday during Study Hall. 7th graders are studying French History. We are taking a virtual tour of the Palace and the Bastille this week. Expect a quiz on Thursday. 8th graders are discussing the Civil War. We are looking at the major battles as well as the effects of the war on our nation. English/Literature: 6th graders should finish up Across Five Aprils this week and test on Friday. Also, spelling test will be given on Friday as well. 7th Grade English : This class is reviewing some basic rules of grammar. We are also practicing our on the spot essay answers for testing purposes. Our focus will be on important details verses unimportant ones, planning, and implementing the right forms for the right questions. 8th grade, Jr High Math, Spanish 1-6 - Mrs. Anderson Math: 8th grade - Finish unit on Business Math: Insurance - Quiz Wed 3/9; Begin unit on Geometry: planes, lines, & angles 7th grade - Continue Math Geography Unit - Latitude, Heat/Temperature conversions. 6th grade - Continue Geometry segment- Angles: measuring & constructing Spanish Grades 1-6: Places around the neighborhood.
