meet for your preferred education institution, course of study
and visa applications.

If you are enrolled in master’s by research or doctoral degree,
you can work unlimited hours when you commence your
studies. Please note: You cannot undertake work until you have
commenced your studies in Australia.
Working during your studies
Working after your studies
Before applying, you should contact the education institution’s
international office about specific entry requirements for your
course of study.
The Post-Study Work stream provides international students
with extended options for working in Australia. Eligible
graduates of a postgraduate degree under the Post-Study
Work stream may be eligible for a working visa for two, three
or four year’s duration, depending on the highest education
qualification obtained.

There are two types of postgraduate master’s degrees:
International students who have completed at least two years
of study in Australia have the opportunity to stay and work for
up to two years.
A Master’s by Coursework typically involves a program of classes
in a major field of study, plus a research project or dissertation. A
Master’s by Research involves intensive, self-directed research
leading to a thesis or major research project and generally is a
path to further research in a doctoral program. Both are one or
two years full-time study.

OTHER STUDY OPTIONS
Applying for a professional doctorate or PhD
Contact your preferred education institution to discuss
professional doctorate and PhD processes. You may need to
provide a draft research project proposal before submitting a
formal application.
Australian education institutions also offer a range of flexible
study options for students who wish to experience an Australian
education without having to travel to Australia. These can be
online or through a partnered university, college or registered
training organisation. Online courses can include course content
delivered to you through video, podcasts and webinars.
FUNDING YOUR STUDIES
Many Australian education institutions have campuses or schools
located overseas to cater for those students who would prefer to
study at an Australian education institution in their own country.
