For this exercise, you will need three colored pencils or crayons. One color will represent “Free States” and “Free Territory”; one color will represent “Decision on Slavery left to the people of the Territory”; and one color will represent “Slave State” and “Slave Territory.” 1. Color the map according to the regions in the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. 2. Draw in the Missouri Compromise Line of 1820. (You can use your ConnectEd App, page 431 to help you complete this task). 3. Put a mark next to each category to indicate what color it will be represented by on the map. You can choose any color, but make sure you color code the key (i.e., Free States and Free Territory are blue so all Free States and Free Territory will be blue). Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 Answer the following questions in detail: 1. How did the Kansas-Nebraska Act change the Missouri Compromise? 2. What territories did the Kansas-Nebraska Act open to slavery? 3. By 1854, how many slave States and how many free States/Territories were there? 4. Explain the uncertainty that existed in 1854 concerning the future of the balance of power between free and slave states. 5.
