BACnet — a data communication protocol for building automation and control networks. A data communication protocol is a set of rules governing the exchange of data over a computer network. Ethernet — a local-area network (LAN) architecture. Ethernet uses the CSMA/CD access method to handle simultaneous demands and is one of the most widely implemented LAN standards. Ethernet Switch — an external device used within an existing LAN to connect multiple computers with each other. Ethernet switches not only receive data packets, but also have the ability to inspect them before passing them on to the next computer — they can determine the source, the data contents, and also identify the destination. This unique feature allows it to send data to the relevant connected system only, using less bandwidth at high-performance rates. HVAC — an acronym that stands for heating, ventilating and air conditioning. Rectifier — an electrical device that converts alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), a process known as rectification. SuperCap — a battery power backup that can be charged very rapidly and deliver a high peak output current. 2 www.uponor-usa.com • www.uponor.ca Overview The Touch Panel Interface (TPI) is a high-performance, wide-screen LCD touch display that serves as an interface with the Climate Cŏntrol Network System. It uses BACnet over Ethernet to communicate with the controllers on a local area network (LAN). The TPI allows operators to monitor and manage building HVAC systems by using custom real-time graphics. The TPI can be wall- or panel-mounted in mechanical rooms or in public spaces. The Uponor Climate Cŏntrol Network System TPI requires no additional programming. When connected to the Ethernet, the user can command the TPI to find the network settings to view only the specific information configured for a network system. Features • High-resolution, 7-inch wide-screen display for easy viewing • Touch panel interface; no stylus required • Modern, compact and attractive design • Install in any location (new and retrofit, wall- or panel-mounting) • Supports BACnet over Ethernet communications • Provides a Climate Cŏntrol Network System interface to: – Modify controller schedules and calendars – Display and acknowledge alarms – Change setpoints, monitor inputs and outputs – Enable or disable heating and cooling modes or snow-melt operations – View the present operation and temperature of the system Uponor Climate Cŏntrol™ Network Touch Panel Interface Installation Guide 3 4 www.uponor-usa.com • www.uponor.ca Installation Wall The installer can mount the TPI to a wall or onto a panel door. Surface mounting will extend the TPI approximately 1.3 inches out from the finished surface (see Figure 1). Tools Required Tools you will need for this installation include: • Drill • Screwdriver Power/Ethernet Cable • Appropriate screws for securing TPI to the surface 1.3 in. • Level • Allen wrench (provided) Figure 1: Touch Panel Interface — Surface Mount Mounting Instructions 1. Level the TPI on the mounting surface. 2. Open the TPI housing using the 1/8" Allen wrench provided in the packaging. Note: You do not need to remove the Allen screw completely in order to open the TPI housing. Make one turn counter-clockwise and depress the tabs on left and right of the Allen screw to release the back and front housings from each other. Refer to Figure 2 for the location of the Allen screw and release tabs. 3. Using a level, mark the screw holes (four recommended). 7.2 in. Ethernet Ports Reset Button 24 vac Speaker Speaker LED 2 Database Scan Figure 5: TPI Circuit Board Wiring General Following are some general items to keep in mind when wiring the TPI unit. • All terminals are acceptable for Class-2 circuit connections only. • Use copper conductors only. • Apply minimum 6.0 lb-in torque for tightening field wires into the terminal blocks (which accept 22-12 AWG wires). Power • The TPI is rated for 24VAC Class-2 power supply. • The TPI is a full-wave rectified device. • Multiple TPI units can share the same transformer. Refer to the specifications at the end of this document for proper sizing of the transformer. • Use a dedicated transformer for powering the TPI unit; do not share it with other types of Uponor controllers (DZCMs, FACs, etc.). Uponor Climate Cŏntrol™ Network Touch Panel Interface Installation Guide 7 Network Communication The TPI uses BACnet over Ethernet for communications. BACnet IP is not supported. The two Ethernet ports function as an Ethernet switch, allowing daisy chaining a second Ethernet TPI, Ethernet controller or other Ethernet device. Refer to Figures 6, 7 and 8 for three examples of wiring applications.
