TENTH AMENDMENT TO THE AIRPORT SERVICE
CHARGE ACT
In accordance with Article 92 of the Constitution, the “Tenth Amendment to the Airport Service Charge
Act” passed in the 59th sitting of the 17th session of the People’s Majlis held on Monday the 2nd of
November 2009, has become law and has been published in the Government Gazette upon its
ratification by the President on Tuesday the 10th of November 2009 (23 Zulqaidha 1430).

TENTH AMENDMENT TO THE AIRPORT SERVICE CHARGE ACT
Incorporate the following amendments to the Airport Service Charge Act (Law Number 71/78):
Levying Airport
Service Charge
1.
(a)
A fee in the name of Airport Service Charge shall be levied in the following
manner on the following passengers departing the Maldives from an airport in
the Maldives:
(1)
A fee of USD 18.50 (Eighteen United States Dollars and Fifty Cents) on
every foreign passenger.
(2)
A fee of USD 12.00 (Twelve United Stated Dollars) on every Maldivian
passenger over the age of 2.
(b)
Notwithstanding Section 1(a) of this Act, this Section does not restrict the
payment of the equivalent of the fee referred to in the said Section, in
Maldivian Rufiyaa or in a currency accepted by the Maldives Monetary
Authority.
(c)
Persons with diplomatic immunity, persons serving as Ministers or in higher
posts of other States, transit passengers and children under the age of two shall
be exempt from Airport Service Charge.
(d)
The Airport Service Charge levied under this Act shall be receivable as State
revenue.
2.
This Act shall commence upon it being passed, and after the completion of 6 (Six)
months from the date of its ratification.
DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY – The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority shall not accept any liability or responsibility arising out of any reliance whatsoever on the translation contained herein. In the
event of conflict between the translations contained herein and the Dhivehi Tenth Amendment to the Airport Service Charge Act, the latter shall prevail for all given purposes. Therefore, it is
advised that both the Dhivehi Tenth Amendment to the Airport Service Charge Act and its English translations be read concurrently.
