Amy Bjorgen, LTC
Amy is always willing to help. She comes
in extra in the early hours before required to
assist residents who want to be up early and to ensure showers have enough help and even to relieve the night shift. She
maintains a positive attitude even when they are short of
staff, running behind and surrounded by stressed staff and
residents.
Amy brought her own
nail polish to paint and
decorate residents’ nails
with fancy designs and details. She has come in at
5:00 am on her days off to
prevent me and many others
from getting behind and
upsetting residents by having to wait. She will help
everybody, every day in any
department.

In Stillness, We Wait!
Advent is a time of waiting for the coming of Christmas (Christ) to come in our lives every day we are on this
earth. How do we prepare for Christ to come into our lives on a daily basis? Advent Candles light the way toward
Christmas but they can also help us to see the light in the work we do. We all are on a Mission here at St. Aloisius Medical Center. Lets take closer look about our Mission.
Military officers are “commissioned.” Health care leaders should be as well. The word commission, similar to the
word mission, is formed from the Latin word implying someone is sent. Persons with a mission are sent out with the authority to perform a special service. Soldiers are given a mission and sent to carry it out. They do not represent their
personal interest but act for those who sent them.
In Health care, we have a distinct mission to relieve suffering and restore hope. Our task is predictable in that
we are charged with fostering the healing of those entrusted to our care. What is uncharted is the path to this goal. A
commissioning ceremony is an organization’s way to send individuals on a mission, and that is one reason we have
with the Blessing of the Hands of our employees. Many leaders who have a sense of mission live the conviction that
their work is God’s work made visible. Not everyone has that understanding of the world or of his or her work. However,
we all have a shared desire to create a remarkable organization that fulfills our collective vision. Some days we may see
our work simply as a job, bit it is a calling forth your gifts as a service for others. But, now and again, as during a commissioning ceremony, we are invited to recognize the idea of participating in a calling that will inspire us to create a
world that reflects our dreams.
Today, I will find a moment to appreciate the importance and sacredness of what my work is all about.
