Fish tanks must be part of the class curriculum and approved by the Principal. 2. Fish tanks must be constructed with safety glass or other unbreakable material. Plate glass is not permitted. 3. A cover must be on the tank at all times. 4. Fish tank electrical equipment must be plugged into electrical outlets that have Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI). 5. If additional electrical equipment is needed, the equipment must be connected to a multi outlet box (surge protector), with a 15 amp capacity with a fuse and on/off switch. The device must have a UL or other national testing label and be connected to a GFCI electrical outlet. 6. Secure the fish tank so it will not tip or fall over. 7. Avoid water spillage. 8. Students are not permitted to handle fish tanks. 9. Fish tanks must be no larger than 15 gallons, except in Science rooms where they may be up to 55 gallons. 10. Fish tanks must be properly maintained. 11. Fish tanks on floor stands must be on tile, not carpet. 09/14/09 JG/vs
