Eleanor Baha,Trade Attaché, British Embassy – UKTI, Geneva will be visiting London Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(LCCI) on Monday 2 June 2014. She will be offering expert advice on how UK suppliers of goods and services can take
advantage of the significant export opportunities through supplying the United Nations (UN) in Geneva and Rome.
Why the UN?
UN procurement for 2012 totalled £9.36bn, a 7.7% increase from $8.7bn in 2011. In 2012, the UK procured the UN with goods and services
worth $152.8m, becoming the UN’s sixth biggest supplier. UN procurement is suitable for small as well as larger companies. Payment is
guaranteed, English is the working language and the UK has an excellent reputation among the UN agencies.
Although these organisations present huge purchasing opportunities, it is essential to be well prepared and familiar with the purchasing process. It
is important to know how to register your company to be invited to bid, and to know which international organisation could be most interested
in your company’s products or services. Companies should be established for at least three years to be eligible to register as a potential supplier.
