6.1 Classifying Quadrilaterals
Objective: To classify and define special types of quadrilaterals
G.1.A. Performance Standard 3.4 DOK­3
NOTES:
We have all 4 sided figures that are called QUADRILATERALS
We now have 3 categories of quads: TRAPEZOIDS, PARALLELOGRAMS & KITES
Trapezoids
A quadrilateral with exactly 1 set of parallel sides
Not 2 sets!!!...only 1 set
Parallelograms
• Opposite sides are parallel
• There are 3 kinds of special parallelograms
1. Rhombus
A parallelogram with 4 congruent sides
2. Rectangle
A parallelogram with 4 right angles
3. Square
A parallelogram with 4 congruent sides and 4 right angles
Kites
• A quadrilateral with 2 pairs of adjacent sides congruent
• Opposite sides are NOT congruent
