I would like to take this opportunity to thank our donors for their generous support
of Griffith Centers for Children Chins Up which has enabled our dedicated staff
to improve the lives of over 1,200 children and their families this year. As an
organization we have responded to the volatile economic environment with
creativity and determination to be sure that each and every child is given the care
they need. I would like to introduce you to one of those children.
No one can recall Scott ever smiling. His was a story that, unfortunately, is
all too common. Scott’s early history included significant domestic violence and
neglect, his father went to prison for drugs and drug related crimes and Scott’s
mother abandoned him thus beginning his 9 years of treatment centers, foster
homes, multiple therapists, psychiatrists and a host of other strangers coming in and out of his life. Scott
came to Griffith Centers Chins Up almost 3 years ago and began to realize that although it wasn’t a
traditional family, the staff stayed committed to him, cared about him, and were not just going to be another
stop along his unending treatment road. Griffith was going to be there for him as long as he needed us.
Scott’s days still are not easy, but with the knowledge that he is supported, challenged, and guided by a
caring group of people, he has made slow and steady progress in his behaviors and development as a
young man. Now 16, Scott is stable, and has moved to Griffith Centers’ group home. Now, Scott smiles
often and feels hopeful about his future.
I am proud that with the help of our Board of Directors and Trustees, Griffith Centers for Children Chins
Up, formerly the Emily Griffith Center, is able to accept and maintain some of the most difficult to manage
children in Colorado. Please join me in thanking all those who make this possible.

2012 has been an amazing year of change for Griffith Centers Chins Up.
Our mission to provide at-risk children and their families the environment and
opportunity to become educated, healthy, productive and participating members of
society continues to guide our every decision. I am grateful to our leadership team,
who, under the direction of Barbara Ritchie, President/CEO, have provided critical,
central leadership armed with good humor, common sense and uncommon patience
enabling them to lead our board and staff through a year of change.
Our success is possible because of the support of our Board of Directors and
Trustees and their passion for our mission. Their dedication, time, and good
judgment have been invaluable to the success of the organization. Through their
governance, participation in our special events or by acting as ambassadors to help
educate others about the devastating impacts of child abuse and neglect, this group
of talented leaders has enabled Griffith Centers Chins Up to give healing and hope to thousands.
This annual report documents the generosity of so many caring individuals, organizations and businesses.
