That is precisely what happened on 8 January 2005 when a vicious hurricane swept the northern part of Denmark. In just a few hours heavy damage had been sustained by the Himmerlands Elforsyning’s grid, which includes some 2,000 km of overhead lines. Consequently, 1,864 transformer stations out of 2,590 broke down in a very short time. Staff from Himmerlands Elforsyning took immidiate action. The ABB remote control system gave them the necessary overview of which towns and districts had been affected by the grid outage. After two days’ hard work all customers had access to electricity again. Did you know that ABB systems are used to help secure the supply of electricity, gas and district heating to half of all consumers in Denmark?
