Thoughts From this Sunday’s Readings by Fr. John
Previous reflections can be found on his blog at
FrJohnMurphy.blogspot.com
Today we celebrate the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ,
Corpus Christi, one of the oldest feasts of the Church. The
first thought that usually comes to mind when we consider the
Body and Blood of Christ is the Eucharist. And this is right. The
Eucharist is the greatest of our seven sacraments. The Catechism
of the Catholic Church teaches us that, “the Eucharist is the source
and summit of the Christian life. The other sacraments, and indeed
all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound
up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed
Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church,
namely Christ himself, our Pasch."(CCC 1324).
Another important aspect of Corpus Christi is community. When
we receive the Eucharist and when Christ becomes part of us,
we are united as Church. “Those who receive the Eucharist are
united more closely to Christ. Through it Christ unites them to all
the faithful in one body - the Church. Communion renews,
strengthens, and deepens this incorporation into the Church,
already achieved by Baptism. In Baptism we have been called to
form but one body. The Eucharist fulfills this call” (CCC 1396).
Individually each one of us is united to Christ through the
Eucharist. God is present in the bread and wine we receive and
God is present in each one of us. When we receive the Body and
Blood of Christ, Christ becomes part of us. In John 6:51,54,56
Jesus said “I am the living bread that came down from heaven;
if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; . . . he who eats
my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and . . . abides in me,
and I in him.”

Ésta no queda
verdadera comida y mi sangre verdadera bebida" (Jn 6, 55). Amén.
The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
Heavenly Father, Today we remember and pay tribute to the men and women of the Armed
Services who have died in the defense of our nation; from the days of the Revolution to these
days in Iraq and Afghanistan. They paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we hold so
dear.
In the words of Sacred Scripture we hear, "There is no greater love then this, than to lay down
one's life for a friend." It is only by your grace and the love they have for you and this nation
that gave them the strength to lay down their lives.
We beseech you O Lord, to receive these servants of peace into your loving embrace and grant
them the eternal peace that surpasses all understanding.
We also remember the family members of these great heroes. They too suffer a great and painful sacrifice. Bestow upon them the blessings of your consolation and peace. May you ease
their sadness as they continue on the road to serenity and hope.
To you we offer this prayer knowing you fulfill the heart's desire of those who seek you with
noble intentions. May our prayer for true and lasting peace be answered in accordance to your
will and for the good of your sons and daughters. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, the
King of Peace. Amen

Brittany was crying as she walked into the
abortion clinic. She came out about five
minutes later and went behind the building to
the parking lot. About an hour later she came
back around to the front and approached us to

about her three year old daughter among many other things. After a
lengthy discussion, she asked me to give her a hug. We held each

“Behold, your Mother”
May 29, 2016
John 19:27
There will be a Consecration (or renewal of Consecration) to the Immaculate
Heart of Mary Ceremony on SATURDAY, JUNE 4 at 8:30 AM, the Memorial
of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This will be a brief ceremony. Either an
individual member of the parish, an entire family, ministry or group, may
consecrate themselves to Our Blessed Mother. This holds much power
spiritually. When we ask Mary to be our Mother by consecrating/entrusting
ourselves to her, we place ourselves under Her care and protection, and allow
her to embrace us even more closely.
On June 4 there will be sheets of paper available for you to fill out with your name and/or the names of the
people, ministry, or group that you wish to entrust to her. A binder will be placed before the statue of our
Blessed Mother in the sanctuary. During the consecration ceremony we will process forward to place our sheet
of paper in the binder.
If you cannot be physically present and are joining us in spirit, you may email names of individuals, families,
groups or ministries you wish to entrust to Our Blessed Mother, and they will be written in the binder for you.
When sending this email:

Please put “Consecration to the IHM” in the subject line

List the names/or family name, ministry or group you wish to consecrate (entrust) to the Immaculate
Heart of Mary

Send the email to Terri Thomas at [email protected]

For the 2015/16 Faith Formation year 1,106 total students were enrolled ( 631 families total). We need 200+ Catechists to
serve this number of students. Did you know that over 50% of our catechists did NOT have children in the 2015-16 school
year program?? We are so blessed and thankful for their service.
As of May 15 there are 300+ students registered but only a handful of catechists have committed to volunteer. We are
asking for you to prayerfully consider donating your time to volunteer this year. There are opportunities at all skill levels
in areas such as hospitality, teacher aides, classroom and hallway monitors and office aides. Thank you for your prayerful
consideration.
Catechists Are Needed.
