BM 2.3 Rules for rounding to
the nearest ten or hundred
Rule 1:
When I round a number to the nearest ten, I look at the digit in the ones
place.
(a) If the digit < 5, I round it to the smaller ten.
(b) If the digit > 5, I round it to the bigger ten.
(c) If the digit = 5, I round it to the bigger ten.
Rule 2:
When I round a number to the nearest hundred, I look at the digit in the
tens place.
(a) If the digit < 5, I round it to the smaller hundred.
(b) If the digit > 5, I round it to the bigger hundred.
(c) If the digit = 5, I round it to the bigger hundred.
