Pictures to Words & Word Association Watch this video and follow the instructions: Pictures to Words & Word Association Video C. Language Experience Stories The student dictates a sentence or story to you. To get started, ask the student to think of a story he would like to tell a young relative or friend. Give examples of stories or story prompts for the student. Neatly write what the student says. Use correct spelling but do not change the student’s grammar. One to three sentences are enough in the beginning. Read the story to the student. If possible, have the student read it to you. This can be done several times until the student is comfortable with his or her reading. Ask the student to copy the sentences. Use words from the story to teach as sight words, writing them on index cards. 4. Wrap-Up and Feedback Be sure to ask for feedback on the lesson. Review building sentences with different words If needed, create more language experience stories and repeat the activity.
