SECRETARY’S REPORT – OCTOBER 19, 2014 MEETING
The meeting was called to order at 9:13 A.M. Jack Schubert led us in the Pledge of Allegiance
There were 45 members and 4 guests in attendance
STORY TIME: CRAIG PETERS asked the membership if they had any stories to share:
 Bob “Mr. Lucky” Ranger talked about the recent trip to Tennessee and how they stopped at just about
every Harley dealership on the way. One day as a change from visiting Harley Dealerships, they took a
ride to Wheels through Time, it was closed. Then they went to Ghost town and that was closed. Well,
the only place around was a Harley dealership. Bruce had his fill of dealerships and decided to head
back to the time share. Lo and behold the next day Bruce told Bob he needed to go to the dealership
for new brakes.
 Ed “Muffin” Haire talked about going to Doc McCallum’s moonshine distillery with Craig “Mother”
Peters and Sandy Leal. We were given free samples of their moonshine. They passed on most of their
samples to others. They made sure everyone took a couple of miles walk and visited other places
before getting back on the bikes.
 CONGRATULATIONS to Joann Cataldo, she recently passed her motorcycle class and is ready for the
next step. Congratulations!!!
TREASURER’S REPORT: A full disclosure of the treasurer’s report was given at the member’s only
portion of the meeting. The incidental report was relayed to the members and non-members.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: A motion was made to accept the minutes of the last meeting as they are
printed in the newsletter. The motion was accepted and seconded by the membership present.
COMMUNICATIONS AND BILLS: CRAIG PETERS gave the following report:
 HOT training dates are mentioned in the recent HOG officer’s news. More information will follow.
 Discussion was held regarding placement of patches, the new HOG logo as well as the new LOH logo.
Please visit the HOG website for more information on these logos.
SUNSHINE REPORT: PATI TINO gave her report to the membership:

Pati read off the birthdays for October. Those members in attendance were reminded to get their free
50/50 Raffle Ticket.
SPONSOR’S REPORT: PAUL ROBERTSON gave the membership the following report from our
sponsor
 Bo wanted to extend his thanks to everyone for all the time they have volunteered and helped out with
customer appreciation day.
 2014 Softails, Dynas, and Sportsters are financing for 0.99% until the end of October.
 There is a recall on 2014 and 2015 bikes with hydraulic clutches. Contact service for further
information.
OLD BUSINESS: CRAIG PETERS went over the following old business:
 The combined chapter picnic sponsored by Pioneer Valley of Southampton was discussed. The food
was good and everyone had a good time. Our turn for sponsoring the picnic will be next year.
SECRETARY’S REPORT – OCTOBER 19, 2014 MEETING
MEMBERSHIP: GAIL SARTORI REPORTED IN AMY RUGGIANO’S absence:
 We have five new members, Bill Faitella, Robin Fuller, John Milardo, Rita Webber and Brenda
Anderson.
 There are currently 150 active West Conn HOG members.
MERCHANDISE: RON VELODOTA went over the following:
 We got patches, shirts and stickers.
 Any special orders must be paid for in advance including name tags.
LADIES OF HARLEY (LOH): TRACY BOODLEY reported in KAT ROSS’S absence
 For those of you who may not have heard, our CHILI COOK OFF winners this year were:
 1st place -Sue Moseley
 2nd place - Craig Peters - first time chili maker!
 3rd place - James Wise
Thank you to all our contestants for their delicious chili and we want to thank all those who came out
to support the event. A special thanks to those of you who volunteered to help set up, and also for
looking after the donation table they were: Mikey Lauzier, Jon Masthay, Ron Velodota, James Wise,
Sandy Leal,. We can’t forget a big thank you Gary Santorso for providing the cornbread.
 Our LOH dinner meeting will be held on Tuesday evening, October 28, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Smokin’
with Chris - http://smokinwithchris.com/ 59 West Center Street, Southington. As always an RSVP is
greatly appreciated especially for some of these smaller restaurants who need to determine where to
set us up. Contact Kat Ross via any of the following: [email protected]; text 203-206-1294; call 860-2830015 or via the West Conn HOG page.
 November is the month we traditionally collect food supplies for a local food pantry. Since we
contributed to Plainville and Bristol the last 2 years, I thought this year we could contribute to a
Southington food pantry. I considered The Giving Back Food Pantry which provides food to residents
of Southington, Bristol, Meriden, New Britain and Plainville....but my research indicates they are only
available for food pantry services every other Saturday which I find disappointing! So, if everyone is
agreeable, maybe we could consider the same food pantry/soup kitchen that we contributed to last
year. It was the CFC Storehouse on Prospect St in Bristol and they are considered one of the largest
food providers for the needy in the state. They are both a food pantry and a soup kitchen and also
provide clothing to the needy. They were also selected to be one of three agencies in the ST of CT to
be used as an emergency facility for distributing food during major power outages. I will be happy to
contact them to see what supplies they need.
 Before long our pasta supper fundraiser will be here and with that thought in mind we should probably
talk about whether or not we want to continue the tradition of a quilt raffle. Connie took on that
project pretty much by herself each year. If we continue the tradition, we would need a volunteer(s)
to head up the project, hopefully with the support of others. Or........do we want to invest in
something else that might be a different money making raffle: i.e. large, flat screen TV or some other
major draw/purchase.
 Ladies, we are long overdue for a meeting; I'm thinking either Saturday, 10/25 or 11/1 at 10:00 a.m. at
Yankee. I will need to check with Bo to determine availability of their break room.
SECRETARY’S REPORT – OCTOBER 19, 2014 MEETING
ACTIVITIES: MIKE LAUZIER/JOHN MASTHAY gave the following report:
 The Chapter Christmas party will be held on Saturday December 13, 2014 at Nuchies in Forestville.
Tickets are $30 for members $40 for guests and are limited to 80. The band will be Time Factor.
Please see Joann Cataldo for tickets.
 The pool tournament has resumed Bob “Mr. Lucky” Ranger was our first place winner and Ron
“Bumper” Velodota took second place.
 Every third Thursday of the month we will be holding our Pool tournament in Southington at Shooters.
Come down and join in on the fun – you don’t have to play you can show up and have a great time. It
really is a fun night for all even if you don’t play. We are also changing the starting time for the pool
tournament to 6:30. If you are going to be shooting pool that night, we want to have you there by
6:15 so we can get all of the players set up with tables and schedules.
 Mike Lauzier mentioned about the possibility of putting together a HOG Hop dance and would like any
input the members. If you have any other ideas about other activities let John Masthay or Mike
Lauzier know
 John Masthay went over an activity they are preparing for November. Duckpin bowling, “Dancing
Ducks” (black light bowling) from 7-9 on Saturday night $10 per person 6 people per lane. The date for
this activity will be November 22, 2014; this would be an open event. This is held at the Highland Bowl;
1211 Highland Avenue/Route 10; Cheshire, CT.
SAFETY REPORT: JEFF SMITH was absent so BOB RANGER gave the following safety report:
 There is a new light you can attach to the back of your helmet to make you more visible for drivers in
back of you. It’s a wireless light and Bob has more information available for anyone interested during
the break.
 Our hand signals are starting to be forgotten. It’s very important for everyone’s safety to make sure
hand signals are being used.
 Be careful riding this time of year with all the wet leaves falling. Remember it may be dry on the road
but those same leaves in a pile retain water and you can still slide quickly. Very soon, with the cool
mornings, we will be thinking about black ice forming on the road.
 Road captains before you go out on a ride see if there are any new riders in the group and explain to
them how to ride within the group. If this is someone’s first or second ride, you might want to have
them ride directly behind you so you can gear the pace to their ability. Remember to go over the hand
signals with EVERYONE prior to leaving for your ride.
ROAD CAPTAIN’S REPORT: BRIAN THIBODEAU gave the following report about rides
 Ed “Muffin” Haire received his road Captain patch today…Congratulations!!!
 The mileage contest has come to a close. For those that participated, please turn in your mileage
ASAP. The winner will be chosen, with payout, in November.
 Our scheduled rides are done for the year. Any upcoming rides will be posted on Facebook or on the
website.
 Brian reinforced the need to use hand signals and keep the line of bikes tight to avoid breaking up the
group.
 Videos are available to borrow, Guide to group riding and Ride like a pro.
SECRETARY’S REPORT – OCTOBER 19, 2014 MEETING
NEW BUSINESS: CRAIG PETERS went over the following information with members
 Road Captains – please hand in your ride sheets to our secretary Sandy Leal.
 Gary Gillette talked about the 20th annual Miracle Ride to be held on April 26, 2015. KSU 12:00 p.m.
The committee is hoping to get 2000 bikes for this event in April.
 We presented Ryan Pelletearie, a member of the South District Fire department, a check for the Adopt
a Family charity in Mike Osiecki’s name for $1,000.00.
 Iron Adventure Run 2015 kick off meeting is November 8, 2014 at Mikes Famous Harley Davidson in
New London. Please let Bob “Mr. Lucky” Ranger know of any likes or dislikes or anything you would
like to see at the next Iron Adventure. $109 singles, triples $119, quads $129.00.
 We are in desperate need of raffle prizes for our table. We only had 4 raffle items this month and that
is the lowest we have seen in quite some time. Please bring something for the next meeting – it
doesn’t have to be a new Harley, it can be a bottle of wine, gift cards, t-shirts, etc., anything to help
with the raffle table.
 At the August meeting someone almost went down in the parking lot. That person said he yelled for
help and no one helped out. There seemed to be a misunderstanding with the people that were in the
area and they did not think there was a problem as the person seemed to gain control of the bike and
rode off.
A motion was made and seconded and passed to adjourn the meeting at 10:49 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Leal, Secretary
