Report of 21st Iranian Conference on Optics and Photonics and 7th

Report of 21st Iranian Conference on Optics and Photonics and 7th Iranian Conference on Photonic Engineering
21st Iranian conference on op cs and photonics and 7th Iranian conference on photonics engineering were held at international conference hall of Shahid Beheshti University simultaneously with interna onal year of light from 13 to 15 January, 2015. In other words, the annual conference of optics and photonics was the opening of the international year of light. Therefore, this conference comprised special parts. The opening part commenced at 8 a.m. on the thirteenth of January by cutting the laser tape and a series of robotic movements accompanying national anthem playing. In opening part, Dr Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi (the president of Shahid Beheshti University), Dr. Malekfar (the president of optics and photonics society of Iran), Dr. Mansouri and Dr. Saaed Abadi (Secretary‐General of Iranian national commission for UNESCO) made speeches and after the scientific show of Fanamouz group, the first scientific lecture commenced by introducing Dr. Salehi as this year’s photonics pioneer. Dr.Tehranchi welcomed the professors and researchers and moreover he hoped that this conference would be an effective step in optics and photonics science. The president of Shahid Beheshti University stated that proclaiming this year as the international year of light demonstrated its importance and effect on human life. Dr. Mohammadreza Saeed Abadi, the Secretary‐ General of Iranian national commission for UNESCO declared that in the 68th Session, UN General Assembly proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light‐based Technologies (IYL 2015). He added that light, optics and light‐based technologies were not only related to scientific and artistic domains but also had effects on energy, medicine, archeology, astronomy and information technology. By enumerating the goals of UNESCO from proclamation of international year of light, Dr. Saeedabadi specified that the most important goal was generalizing the knowledge and attracting public opinion to the position of science in daily life of people and subsequently, more space would be created for demand and scientific development. As declared in his speech, another goal of this naming was increasing the scientific exchange among scientists and specialists in national and international levels. He said:”International year of light provides the possibility of scientific exchange among developed and developing countries under the support of UNESCO”. The Secretary‐General of Iranian national commission for UNESCO added that by this proclamation UNESCO decided to make young generation familiar with optics science with the help of organized proceedings which would broaden students’ and young researchers’ horizons. After the opening part, the conference was followed by specialized lectures of outstanding professors of photonics. In this conference, in addition to 6 invited lecturers, 130 parallel paper presentations were done in 6 halls in the domains of photonic crystal, nanophotonics, spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, light‐based measurement, biophotonics, optical fiber devices, light and matter interaction, tweezers and measurement, quantum optics, semiconductor lasers, metamaterial and plasmonic devices and organic op cal devices. Moreover, 330 papers were presented as posters in two days. The reviewing of the papers were done by 23 scientist committee members under the management of Dr. Moravej Farshi as the secretary of the scien fic commi ee with the help of 250 researchers from various universi es of Iran. Organizing committee of this conference comprised 30 members of Laser and Plasma Research Institute and physics department of Shahid Beheshti University under the management of Dr. Mohajerani with the help of about 180 students. Moreover, four expert panel discussions had been held in this conference entitled “Higher Education of Photonics”, “Employment and Photonics”, “Laser in Medicine”, “Education of Photonics for Public” which were widely welcomed. On the other side, in parallel exhibition a number of active commercial enterprises in the domain of optics and photonics and some active universities in this field showcased their products and activities. Also, in celebration of the international year of light, a part of the exhibition was allocated to Fanamouz Group in order to show various optical and laser phenomena. On the last day, a number of teachers and high school students have been invited for some specific seminars which were welcomed too. It should be mentioned that the specialized workshops were held the day before the conference. Optics and photonics conference of Iran is held annually with the initiative of optics and photonics society of Iran in cooperation with a large number of industrial and academic
institutions and national scientific and research organizations at one of the universities or research centers of Iran .Annually, a great number of researchers and specialists in respective fields are invited to submit their research papers containing new findings in topics of conference via the conference website. Acquaintance of academic specialists and researchers and research and industrial centers with each other’s activities, information exchange and communication between industrialists and researchers, being familiar with the latest scientific and technological achievements in various fields of optics and photonics in the country and the establishment of specialized panels are the objectives of the conference. Top papers are introduced to International Scientific ‐ Research Journal of Optics and Photonics of Iran to be published.
