TIPS AND TRICKS CLINIC
If you are new to the sport of triathlon or would just like some additional information about the event
then please come to our Tips and Tricks Clinic at 3PM on Saturday during optional event registration. This
Clinic will run you through the event step by step and give you all the basics you need to enjoy your
event Sunday. You can also ask questions at the clinic to clarify anything you are unsure of.
START TIME
Please make sure you have taken note of your start time and briefing time in the Timetable above.
When planning your day please keep in mind you will need time to pick up your registration pack, set up
your transition gear and make your way to the pool for your briefing.
TRANSITION is where you need to place your bike and change over between the swim / bike / run.
Setup in Transition: find the bike rack allocated for your category, place your bike on the rack and set up
your race equipment to the right (chain side) of your bike. Ensure you remove any non-race equipment
away from the bike racks to the gear storage at registration (open from 6.30am in the check in tent).
Familiarise Yourself: check the start & finish points to transition. Check the course maps near check in so
you know where to go. Failure to follow direct designated course may result in personal injury or
accident, you do so at your own risk and may result in disqualification.
Transition Access:
• Only competitors are allowed in transition area (ONE parent allowed in to transition to help set up
prior to the Kids Triathlon only. No parents allowed during the event)
• Jumping any transition fences will lead to disqualification.
• After your event finishes, to make the day safe and fair for all, bike collection will only be available
when there is a break in the participants coming through transition from the pool. Please listen for
announcements for times that bike collection is available.
TEAM INFORMATION
Teams have a minimum of two and a maximum of three participants. That means one person swims,
one person rides and one person runs. If one person wants to do two legs that is fine - but if you and
you friend want to participate side by side you need to do individual entries.
• Race number bib to be worn by runner only.
• Change over point is at the cyclist’s bike. Swimmer must give the cyclist the timing chip before
cyclist removes bike from rack and cyclist must rack bike and then give the runner the timing chip before
the runner begins the run.
• Timing chip – to be worn by all team members on the left ankle or the team may not receive a time.
BRIEFING INFORMATION
SWIM
Each participant enters the water one at a time and swims around the buoys in a
zig zag fashion. Each participant's timing chip is activated as they cross the timing
mat when they enter into the pool. If you want to stay with your friends, just line
up together as you get into the pool. Sometimes there is a short wait to get all
participants in the pool, so we recommend sitting in the shade whilst you wait.
If you are a slow or not a confident swimmer, please start at the back of the line.
If you need any assistance during your swim leg, please raise your hand and call
for one of the lifeguards. If you wish to rest at any stage you can do so at each end
of the pool by holding onto the edge. If you wish you can swim with a pool noodle
for added buoyancy.
BIKE
After your swim you will head to transition and put on your helmet. Once you are
ready you will take your bike off the rack and walk it to the mount line. Please
don’t ride your bike in transition or on the way to the mount line. Once you pass
the mount line you will get on your bike and ride your allocated number of laps.
You will then get off your bike at the dismount line and walk your bike back to
transition before starting the run.
• Please ride single file and keep to the left at all times unless overtaking.
• Please ensure you have a drink bottle on your bike to stay hydrated.
• Please ensure your helmet is secured from the time you remove your bike from
the rack until you put your bike back on the rack.
RUN
After your bike ride you will then head into transition and put your bike back on
the rack. You can then remove your helmet and get ready for the run. Once you
are ready you will head out towards the run start flag in transition and begin your
run. You will then complete your allocated laps before heading down the finish
line on your final lap.
• There are drink stations along the run course so please make use of these to
ensure proper hydration.
• Please keep left on the run course at all times unless overtaking.
EVENT EXPO
The Triathlon Pink expo provides you with a high quality, interactive display of products and services.
Come along and visit the event sponsors and exhibitors and grab yourself a bargain.
• Saturday: 2:00pm – 4:00pm (during optional registration with a Tips & Tricks Clinic at 3pm)
• Sunday: 6:00am – 10am (whilst the event is underway)
TRIATHLON PINK AND CHARITY
Triathlon Pink has been supporting breast cancer charities since the series started in 2007, and has raised
over $1.76 million for breast cancer research, support and care. Your entry fee goes towards covering
event costs, so to support NBCF you’ll need to fundraise additionally or donate via our registration
system.
Last season saw an amazing effort on the fundraising front for our charity partner the National Breast
Cancer Foundation (NBCF) raising just over $163,000 – this takes our overall fundraising for breast cancer
charities from the past 9 seasons to $1.76 million!! We look forward to working with NBCF again in the
2016/2017 season and aim to tackle the target of $200,000!
Help NBCF move towards their goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030, by
• Making an optional donation as you enter,
• setting up a fundraising page today,
• or sponsoring a friend’s fundraising!
ABOUT THE NATIONAL BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is the leading community-funded organisation in Australia
bringing together the community to fund research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of
breast cancer. Since NBCF was established in 1994, over $115 million has been awarded to more than
over 400 Australian-based research projects to improve the health and wellbeing of those affected by
breast cancer. For more information, visit www.nbcf.org.au
