Set to a sunny soundtrack, MINIMÓN (which loosely translates to "small world") uses lyrical movement, clever projections and a little magic to make dreamers of us all. Students are in for a treat when, after the show, they are invited to explore this wondrous, small world. BARCELONA CLOSER LOOK AT MINIMON X SPAIN • The company, Mons Dansa, creates artful and fantastical dance works for kids, introducing them to contemporary dance. They encourage audience members to be more than spectators by inviting them to experiment with the feelings and ideas of the show through guided activities with the artist after the performance. BARCELONA, SPAIN • MINIMÓN loosely translates to “small world” and in this one woman show, she creates exactly that! The performer transforms a simple bedroom into a playground full of possibilities with the help of some cleverly manipulated props, playful projections and lyrical dance. • Barcelona, located in the region of Catalonia, is a bilingual city with two official languages: Spanish and Catalan. Catalan is an independent language and not a Spanish dialect. • The people of Catalonia are very passionate about fútbol (the same game we call soccer in the US). They are wild about their fútbol team, FC Barcelona, which has its own museum which is the most visited museum in all of Barcelona! Prior to exploring MINIMÓN with your students, find out how much they already know about lyrical dance and solo performance. In addition, allow them to explore the theme of imagination. Have you ever been to a dance performance? How many dancers were in the show? How can you tell a story without speaking? What is your favorite thing to do in your bedroom? How do you like to use your imagination? LYRICAL DANCE is a hybrid of traditional ballet and jazz. The movements are informed by emotion and specific intentions. Typically, music used in lyrical pieces has lyrics, hence the name, and the action of the dance is derived from those lyrics. This style of dance naturally lends itself to storytelling due to its focus on emotion. In MINIMÓN, lyrical movement is used in playful ways to tell the story without using any words. SOLO PERFORMANCE refers to a one person show featuring a comedian, dancer or an actor who entertains an audience alone on a stage. This style of theater evolved from the ancient art of storytelling. Today, we can see a huge variety of solo performances. Having only one person performing on stage gives the audience the opportunity to connect and focus on the uniqueness of that human being.
