Opportunities to Serve
November/December 2016
This list is created in the spirit of “many hands make light work.” Each of the following projects already has a project leader who will organize
and coordinate the project. Now that leader needs some help on the smaller tasks, like passing something out after mass or delivering
something. The tasks typically take from between 15 minutes to two hours. These tasks are your opportunity to live out Christ’s call to serve
your brothers and sisters in need. Please contact the project leader directly to volunteer your time and effort.
Project Summary
Charity and Justice Committee
Hope in a Box: every day the
Center for Hope in Flint provides
basic needs to hundreds of our
poorest brothers and sisters. We
will be placing a box in the
greeting area to collect different
items each month.
NEW Life Center: This center,
run by two nuns in Flint, serves
those in need with education and
job training, provision of food,
basic needs and many other
ways.

Project Summary
Migrant Camp Appeal: each
spring and summer the parish
collects needed items for migrant
workers (laundry soap, water,
towels, . . .) and ministers to their
spiritual needs
On-the-rise Bakery is an initiative
of the Capuchins in Detroit and is
staffed by released prisoners;
each year the parish hosts a sale
of their delicious baked goods
Carnations for Mothers’ Day: as
a celebration of motherhood,
there flowers will be sold after
mass on Mothers’ Day weekend
and the proceeds will help
support the Livingston County
Right to Life
Crop Walk: CROP Walk is part of
a local ecumenical and
international effort on hunger
awareness and prevention. The
walk is 3 miles and takes about 1
hour. It is a reminder of the
distance that people in
undeveloped countries walk one
way for clean food and water.
