Wine and theatre combine to tell
the fascinating story of Ireland’s
winemakers. Susan Boyle loves
wine. What’s more she knows what
she’s drinking and talking about.
She’s got 2,000 years of Irish wine
history to back her up! Audience
members will put their senses to use
during the show and hopefully leave with a new insight to a
drink that has been part of Ireland’s history for much longer
than we might think. Wine will be served and is included in
the ticket price.

FESTIVAL
2013
Friday 25th October to
Thursday 31st October
w e lc o m e
Welcome to the 6th annual Thurles
Halloween Arts Festival. Once again we
have a wonderful festival line up, with some
of the best national and international acts
confirmed to perform this year. Our policy
of community participation and enjoyment
is very much evident again, and with so
many different forms of the arts on offer,
there is something for everyone on this
year’s programme.
We will be again hosting this year’s All
Ireland Battle of the Bands Competition
which is a major event for the town with
competitors from every corner of Ireland
taking part. I would like to thank my hard
working committee for all their time and
efforts over the last number of months. I
of course, would also like to show my
appreciation to all our sponsors, volunteers
and festival partners for their generosity
and help, without whom this festival could
not take place.
Finally I hope that everyone who
participates in our festival will both enjoy
and remember it. Our aim is to have a
festival that is open to everyone and one
that will place Thurles on the map as a town
with an Arts Festival to envy.

Mick Hanly
Singer-songwriter Mick Hanly was
pired by mid-50s rock ‘n’ roll before
he became more interested in folk in
the 60s. In 1981, Hanly joined Moving
Hearts as a vocalist, and contributed
his own songs to Live Hearts. After the
demise, in 1985, of one of Ireland’s
most successful and innovative
traditional bands, he went solo again,
and moved towards country music.
His songs were covered by Christy Moore, Mary
Black and the country singer Hal Ketchum, who took
Hanly’s ‘Past The Point Of Rescue’ into the Top 10 of the
US country chart in 1993.
