Remember to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day and
enjoy the tastes of Ireland prepared for you by our
fun and friendly kitchen staff. Let’s have fun the
Irish way with jokes, limericks, music and search
for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Remember, when Irish eyes are smiling,
they’re up to something!
Irish Blessing
May the road rise up
to meet you.
May the wind always
be at your back.
May the sun shine warm
upon your face.
And the rains fall soft
upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the
palm of his hand.
Thanks so much to the Story County Medical Center Auxiliary
for donating the funds to purchase a new aquarium for Senior
Care.
I believe the previous aquarium was 20 years old and we truly
got all the “goody” out of it we could.
The residents love the new aquarium and it is visited
frequently. It is very popular right now as we have two sets of
baby guppies. The first group of about 18 joined us a few weeks
ago, and close to that number arrived just recently. It is hard to
count them all as they are constantly on the move. When they
have grown a little more, residents will pick their favorites and
the rest will go to the pet store in trade for other fish supplies.
To see the baby guppies, visit the second floor dining room.
Thanks again, ladies, for all you do!

Spring Begins
March 20 is the first day of Spring. This is the Vernal Equinox. The amount of daylight is equal to the
amount of darkness during this time. Then, what we have waited so long for begins to happen. The
days lengthen, the temperatures get warmer, the animals start to return, and the flowers pop their
heads up from the dirt and sometimes even the snow with a promise of what’s to come.
Spirits are lifted, gardens get planned, and the prospect of being able to get outdoors and get some
fresh air puts I little hop in your step. Keep on the lookout for the crocus coming up in the front patio
garden, the buds popping out on the trees, and for the robin’s return. Start some seeds in your window
sill to be potted later. Open your shades and welcome Spring!

Just a reminder...
Please don’t bring treats

diet and have been enjoying
too many extras.
If you would like to give
something to our wonderful
pets, please consider toys or
love and affection.
Remembering
Shirley Temple
April 23, 1928 February 10, 2014
Shirley Temple, the sweetheart of the Depression area, passed away on February
10, 2014, at the age of 85.
We remember Shirley Temple for her movie roles: Heidi, Curly Top, The Littlest
Rebel, and The Good Ship Lollipop. She sang (Animal Crackers in My Soup),
and tap danced her way into our hearts. Whether it was the dimples or the pout,
her face will be forever in the hearts of Americans, and around the world.
Did you know...
• In 1950 she married Charles Black, a former Naval Officer, after splitting with her former
husband, John Agar, an Air Force Sgt.
• In 1967 she made an unsuccessful bid as a Republican candidate for Congress.
• In 1969 Richard Nixon appointed her as a member of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations
General Assembly.
• In the 1970’s she served as the US Ambassador to Ghana.
• She Served as Chief of Protocol during President Ford’s administration, 1976-1977.
• Under President George Bush she served as the Ambassador to Czechoslovakia. A few months
after she arrived in Prague, communist rule was overthrown as the Iron Curtain collapsed
across Eastern Europe.
• Because of a contract dispute, the part of Dorothy was given to Judy Garland in The Wizard of
Oz.
• At an early age she stopped believing in Santa Claus because he asked her for her autograph.
• She won a battle with breast cancer in 1972, stating, “I have much more to accomplish before
I’m through.”
• About her career choices, she said, “It’s certainly two different career tracks, both completely
different but both very rewarding.”
Here’s lookin’ at you!
