Mother Ruby Earl McRae-Campbell, daughter of the late Willie Guster & Maude LaneMcRae, was born on November 12, 1919 in Dillon, South Carolina. The life of a person such as Ruby, could never be contained in this reflection. Mrs. Ruby, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, entered into eternal rest, on Thursday, September 3, 2015 surrounded by her loving family and friends. At an early age, Ruby accepted the Lord as her personal savior, and joined Shiloh United Methodist Church, Fork, South Carolina, where she served as a faithful member. She attended Dillon County Public School System. She met and married the love of her life, Lafonia Campbell, and they were united in holy matrimony. To this union one son was born, LaFonia Campbell, Jr., who preceded her in death. She was blessed with a daughter, Jo Ann Colvin-Campbell. She too preceded her in death. She moved to Arlington, Virginia, to be by her husband’s side. They moved back to Dillon to continue from where they left. Being a business minded person, she opened her own business “The Green Top.” Her unconditional love for everyone was shown through her acts of compassion, by rearing them as her very own in her home. Mother Ruby always opened her heart and door to anyone that needed a place to stay. She never thought twice about sharing her home. She opened up her heart and home to all and any who needed her help and provisions. They stayed until they could make it on their own. Her ability to make a way out of no way helped many people, near and far. Mother Ruby was a great lover of people and especially children. Ruby refocused her life and developed a closer walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. She joined the St. Mark Baptist Church and became a very dedicated and faithful member until her health began to fail. Ruby was a farmer at heart. Her hobbies were fishing, watching wrestling, gardening, and taking pride in her flowers. She was the epitome of what God can do in your life if you allow HIM. She lived by herself under the careful eye of her son who lived next door until a year ago when her grandson came to live with her. Her great grand-daughter, Aaliyah Manning was her devoted “Nurse” until her passing. Four brothers and sisters preceded her in death: Horace Curtis McRae, Lenue McRae, Earnest McRae and David K. McRae; Inez R. McRae, Lillian McRae-Mason and Eula Mae McRae-Clark. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories ~ her devoted grandchildren: Lewis (Wendy) Campbell, LaVonea D. Campbell (Larry Gilbert) of Arlington, VA, Lenear D. Campbell (Gary Coley) of Charleston, SC, Marcus A. Campbell of Dillon, SC, Alicia LaToya, Bobby Leshawn Campbell, Jessica Buie of Latta, SC and Ada Ware of Dillon, SC and sixteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; a daughter-n-law: Peggy MooreCampbell; one brother: Luther James McRae; one sister: Doretha McRae (James) Reed of Trenton, NJ; one sistern-law: Mildred Smith-McRae of Trenton, NJ and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
