What does ear spacer reconstruction surgery involve?
Depending on the severity of the stretched skin, the majority of ear reconstruction procedures can be
performed easily under a local anaesthetic in our Outpatient treatment rooms. Correcting a stretched earlobe
can take between 20 and 30 minutes per ear.
Recovery time
Following earlobe surgery, any minimal discomfort can easily be controlled with painkillers, and sleeping in an
upright position with ice applied to the area will reduce any swelling and bruising. Stitches will be removed
within ve to seven days unless they are dissolvable.
Bathing/showering is allowed so long as care is taken not to get the dressings wet and hairdryers should be
used on a cool setting only. For 18 to 24 months after surgery, sun block should be applied to the affected
areas, as these will be prone to burning.
