DECISION-MAKING
Faster understanding for faster decision-making
Today, Thales is a key player in the field of security, with activities encompassing the security of
large cities, major sporting or political events and territorial protection (border control, airport
security, etc.). As a leading systems integrator and supplier of value-added services, Thales
offers solutions that facilitate the decision-making process both for managing daily emergencies
and for handling extraordinary or major crisis situations.
Understanding better in order to make better
decisions: such is the challenge facing companies and
organisations in order to keep crisis situations at bay.
The context of heightened threats (natural disasters,
cyber-attacks, terrorism, vandalism, etc.) and the
growing complexity of the world in which we live in
are giving rise to the implementation of ever more
complex surveillance and supervision systems. The
operators, therefore, have to sort and analyse larger
volumes of data, and this in turn complicates the
decision-making process. It all makes for an exercise
fraught with peril when faced with unusual or serious
security situations.
Thales's answer
In order to tackle these major challenges, Thales
proposes to simplify this complexity so as to be able
to provide decision-makers with relevant, clear and
immediate information regarding their environment.
This involves two types of approach:
- providing operators with a comprehensive
overview of the situation, so that they are
better informed on what is happening or what
is going to happen,
- drawing on specialist tools such as intelligent
image processing.
These twin approaches make it possible, when faced
with emergency situations, to demonstrate reactivity
and respond rapidly no matter what the threat.

Key figures
• Security in Mexico City: in 10 months,
almost 4000 arrests and 1 stolen vehicle in 2
recovered thanks to the video surveillance
system
• Security for the pilgrimage to Mecca: no
further incidents thanks to the video
surveillance and crowd movement analysis
Thales's added value
• Thales is a world leader in the integration of
large complex systems.
• Thales adapts its solutions to suit the businesses
of its customers. Knowing what is of value to the
operator is a priority for the integrator.
• Thales proposes open and collaborative systems
that are able to interconnect with other systems
and thereby produce a higher level of
intelligence on the situation.
• Thales offers training and simulation tools to its
customers, based on realistic environments and
behaviours via scenarios taken from the real
world (3D, augmented reality).
• Thales remains at the permanent disposal of its
customers thanks to its 24/7 call centre.
Thales’s solutions
Thales offers a comprehensive range of solutions designed to help decision-making, in relation to
the protection of critical infrastructures, urban infrastructure, border surveillance and transport.
These include:
Thales Hypervisor: a supervision and integration system
infrastructures and complex events
for
the
management
of
Thales Hypervisor is an all-encompassing, secure, integrated, intelligent and modular supervision system.
The solution is based on a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) associated with a Human-Machine Interface
(HMI) that provides operators with a global and cross-functional vision of situations, along with a decisionmaking tool for optimal operational efficiency.
ECHO: management support system for handling alerts and emergency situations
ECHO is a system for real-time incident management and resource processing via the optimisation of call
processing times and intelligent management of the resources to be deployed. This multi-force command
and control system addresses both routine operations and emergency situations.
Thales Video Solution: an innovative and high-end video protection solution
Thales Video Solution (TVS) is a video protection system incorporating a network video recorder (NVR) in
standardized format, with network bandwidth optimisation and implementation of real-time video content
analysis and post-analysis. Easily configurable and scalable, TVS can integrate legacy systems and is just as
suited to installations with as few as 100 or so cameras as it is to very large systems with over 10,000
cameras.
Thales’s major references
Ciudad Segura
Thales provides security for Mexico city, the 3rd largest metropolitan area in the world with 22 million
inhabitants. Thales deploys a fully integrated solution to conduct public security operations resulting from
the processing of emergency calls and the city's video systems. The system selects important alarm signals,
informing the relevant operators so that they are able to view the incidents and respond in real time. No
other system in the world is as integrated and comprehensive.
Balard Project
Thales was chosen to provide the cybersecurity for the future headquarters of the French Ministry of
Defence. Here, Thales will be deploying the CYBELS solution which is based on the design, construction and
management of a cybersecurity operations control centre for detecting and analysing cyber-attacks and
reacting promptly. Thales is also responsible for security at the complex and will operate videosurveillance
and access control systems.
Pilgrimage to Mecca
Thales guarantees the protection of four million pilgrims at the holy Muslim sites in Saudi Arabia. Thales has
deployed the security centre in Mecca, which integrates intelligent image analysis technology to guide the
pilgrims and ensure their protection against accidents caused by overcrowding at this site.
Thales ensures the security of three large international hubs, the airports in Dubai (United Arab Emirates),
Doha (Qatar) and Durban (South Africa), designing and implementing communication and security systems
(conforming to ICAO standards).
Oil & Gas
Prestigious references for the security of energy sites for Gazprom, Saudi Aramco, Sonatrach, ADNOC and
Borouge.
