spelling level list, your draft book or reading books, and topic words may also be included. Please record one
sentence for each word. Each sentence must contain AT LEAST 8 words. Proofread your sentences carefully
and ensure they are neatly recorded in your English books. Spelling is due on Friday morning.

part of your independent reading programme.
3.
WRiTTeN LaNGuaGe – iDioMS
In order to understand a language, you must know what the idioms in that language mean. An idiom is like a
saying. You have to know its ‘hidden’ meaning.
‘Under the table’
Choose two of the idioms in the box.
Under the weather’
a) For each one, write an explanation of what they mean.
‘Up a creek without a paddle’
b) Create your own sentence for each one to show that you
‘Up against the wall’
understand how to use each idiom correctly.
‘Upper crust’
c) Choose one of your two idioms and draw/create a visual
‘Upset the applecart’
representation (a picture) of it.

Times Tables practise – remember that your target is 80%+ for each of the basic facts speed tests by the
end of the year. Try to spend at least 5 minutes each day working on your areas of weakness.
General Maths practice can be accessed on the Prodigy website. NB: We are now set up under Kauri Pod
Maths.
5.
iNQUiRY – Research Task – this was included on last week’s Homework sheet J
Please put some time into working on this task this week. We are expecting quality pieces of work! Do not leave
it until the last minute and then rush through – work is due next week.
• You will be put into your Market Day groups this week.
As a group you need to make some decisions about the Year level you’d like to target for your Product and
some possibilities for the Product you are going to make.
You will work together in your groups on Thursday to create a ‘Code of
Conduct’ for your group, start thinking about a name (though this may
change, depending on your product), a logo for your group and possible
products (remember that a food-based product is not an option this year).
Bring your teamwork skills, your thinking caps and your creativity!
