send out 10 emails as well as 10 ecards SVAE will receive a $500 gift
certificate for physical education
equipment. Thanks again to
everyone who is taking time to help
raise money for this very important
community service project.
Tomorrow night, our students will be
showcasing their abilities in our
annual talent show.
I know many of the students have
been rehearsing during their own
time after school and even during
recess to prepare for this event.
I want to encourage you to come
and be a part of the audience to
cheer them on in their efforts. This is
a great opportunity to enjoy the
wonderful community we have in
our SVAE family. Even if your own
student is not performing, please
make every effort to attend and
join your child in applauding their
classmates.
On February 21 SVAE officially kicks
off this year’s Jump Rope for Heart
event to raise money for the
American Heart Association. This
money will be used to fund
research on how to prevent heart
disease and also how to help those
who have heart disease. A lot of
students have signed up to use the
on-line giving. We hope that they
send out a lot of emails to ask
others to help support the
American Heart Association. Also
remember that if just 40 students
Our annual Penny War will be
starting on Tuesday, February 21
and go through Friday, March 3.
All money raised will go towards
the American Heart Association.
Not only will students be able to
bring in coins to help with this lifesaving cause, but they will also
have the opportunity to solicit funds
from friends and family by sending
an e-mail invitation to make an online donation to the American
Heart Association. Your child will
receive credit for each of these
dollars earned. These online
contributions will also be added to
your child’s grade-level money jar
totals.
A flyer from the American Heart
Association will be coming home
with your child today with more
details about additional Thank You
gifts that your child could receive.
What is a Penny War? A Penny War
is a spirited game of friendly
competition. The object of the
game is for each class to collect as
many pennies as possible during
the ‘war’ while simultaneously
sabotaging the other classes. Of
course, the ultimate object of the
game is to raise as much money as
possible for this worthy cause.
Students will bring pennies to
school and put them in a
container, located in the main
lobby, that belongs to their class.
Their class receives one point for
every penny (or 100 points for every
dollar; 500 points for every $5 bill,
etc.) put into the container.
But it gets more complicated;
students may sabotage the other
classes by putting “silver” coins
(nickels, dimes, quarters) into their
containers! Each silver coin
subtracts points from that container
by the value of the coin. A nickel
subtracts 5 points; a dime reduces
it by 10 points, etc. This is where
strategy comes into play. This is
why the game is so much fun!
The containers will be emptied and
counted daily. The totals (for
dollars and points) will be posted
daily to encourage friendly
competition. Two prizes will be
awarded: One prize for the class
that has the most points (i.e. the
most pennies collected) and a
prize for the class who raises the
most money! So, empty your
pockets, change purses, and piggy
banks and give your coins to your
child! Be sure to send coins every
day. That’s what makes the contest
exciting. The game is intended to
be fun while raising money for a
worthy cause. We hope that we
can count on your participation!
Our goal is $20 per student.
An Intent for Re-Enrollment form for
the 2017-2018 school year will need
to be submitted by February 28.
It will need to be accompanied by
a $35/child or $75/family minimum
deposit which will be applied
toward the $250/child early
registration fee with the balance
due by June 15th, 2017. This early
deposit will lock families into the
$250 registration fee rate until June
15th. All families that register
between March 1st and July 1st will
pay a $300 registration fee. Families
that register after July 1st will be
charged a $330 registration fee.
