Camp Pupukea
The Hawaiian
Camping Experience
Camp Pupukea, located on the North Shore of O’ahu, adjacent to the
famous Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach.
Our camp experience includes a lot of water front activities, as well as our unique Hawaiiana
program, where the Scouts and Adults can earn the Nationally recognized, Hawaiian Historic
Award, which includes participation in games, music, dance and a luau during camp.
CAMP INFORMATION
Camp Pupukea provides an amazing summer camp experience for all Scouts and
leaders. Along with the traditional Scouting programs and merit badges, the Hawaiian
Camping Experience offers a touch of culture, nature and history. Each troop visiting
from the Mainland USA will participate in activities such as:
USS Missouri Encampment
Spend one night aboard the Mighty USS
Missouri, anchored in Pearl Harbor. Stand on
the deck where the surrender article was
signed by the Japanese Emperor, ending
World War II.
The USS Arizona Memorial
Visit the location where WWII began for the
US. Go aboard the memorial that sits above
the final resting place of the USS Arizona.
The Polynesian Cultural Center
42 Acres of Polynesian Villages with a Luau dinner and Evening Extravaganza, the
PCC is just 20 minutes from Camp Pupukea.
Hanauma Bay and Waimea Bay
Most of your aquatic excursions will be held at Waimea Bay (pictured on front), just
minutes from Camp Pupukea. Other visitor options include Hanauma Bay (below),
which is made from the edges of an extinct volcano. Hanauma and Waimea are both
nature preserves and are perfect for snorkeling, kayaking or just simply laying on the
beach and enjoying the summer Hawaiian sun.
The Hawaiiana Award
Camp Pupukea offers a unique
opportunity to earn the Hawaiiana
Award, a nationally recognized
Scout Award available exclusively at
Hawaii’s summer camps. The
award experience involves visiting
historical sites, completing a written
essay, learning a few Hawaiian
phrases and enjoying Hawaiian
Hula, as well as our Luau feast on
the closing night of camp.
