Aloha Council, BSA Camp Pupukea The Hawaiian Camping Experience Camp Pupukea, located on the North Shore of O’ahu, adjacent to the famous Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach. Our camp experience includes a lot of water front activities, as well as our unique Hawaiiana program, where the Scouts and Adults can earn the Nationally recognized, Hawaiian Historic Award, which includes participation in games, music, dance and a luau during camp. CAMP INFORMATION Camp Pupukea provides an amazing summer camp experience for all Scouts and leaders. Along with the traditional Scouting programs and merit badges, the Hawaiian Camping Experience offers a touch of culture, nature and history. Each troop visiting from the Mainland USA will participate in activities such as: USS Missouri Encampment Spend one night aboard the Mighty USS Missouri, anchored in Pearl Harbor. Stand on the deck where the surrender article was signed by the Japanese Emperor, ending World War II. The USS Arizona Memorial Visit the location where WWII began for the US. Go aboard the memorial that sits above the final resting place of the USS Arizona. The Polynesian Cultural Center 42 Acres of Polynesian Villages with a Luau dinner and Evening Extravaganza, the PCC is just 20 minutes from Camp Pupukea. Hanauma Bay and Waimea Bay Most of your aquatic excursions will be held at Waimea Bay (pictured on front), just minutes from Camp Pupukea. Other visitor options include Hanauma Bay (below), which is made from the edges of an extinct volcano. Hanauma and Waimea are both nature preserves and are perfect for snorkeling, kayaking or just simply laying on the beach and enjoying the summer Hawaiian sun. The Hawaiiana Award Camp Pupukea offers a unique opportunity to earn the Hawaiiana Award, a nationally recognized Scout Award available exclusively at Hawaii’s summer camps. The award experience involves visiting historical sites, completing a written essay, learning a few Hawaiian phrases and enjoying Hawaiian Hula, as well as our Luau feast on the closing night of camp. Rental Vehicles Rental Vans, sufficient for your entire troop, is included as part of your camp fees. CAMP SCHEDULE 2017 Camp Pupukea runs Sunday to Saturday on the following summer schedule Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 June 18 – June 24 June 25 – July 1 July 2 – July 8 July 9 – July 15 July 16 – July 22 July 23 – July 29 July 30 – Aug 5 We ask that mainland units plan their trip to arrive into Hawaii on the Saturday afternoon before the start of their camp week. The overnighter on the USS Missouri will go from 5:00 PM Saturday evening to 8:00 AM Sunday morning. You should also make your arrangements to visit the USS Arizona Memorial on Sunday morning. CAMP PROGRAM INFORMATION Camp Pupukea will offer some great fun and adventure throughout the week you are in camp. Along with the excursions, and incredible Merit Badge opportunities, Camp Pupukea offers in-camp program each night, including Opening and Closing campfires.
