What is Life Science?
Life science is the study of living things. As you study life
science, you will observe and read about a variety of
organisms, from huge redwood trees to the tiny bacteria
that cause sore throats. But Life science is not simply
about learning the names of millions of organisms. It
includes big ideas to help us understand how all these
living things interact with their environment. Life science
is the study of characteristics and needs that all living
things have in common. It’s also a study of changes,
both daily changes and changes that
take place over millions of years. It’s the
study of how living things depend
on Earth and its resources.
What do you need to stay alive? What does an
animal like a fish or a coral need to stay alive?
All living things have common needs.
