The city's elevation varies between 180 and 300 m (590 and 984 ft) above sea level. The river water is used mainly for irrigation. The Zhrebchevo dam on the Tundzha, 25 km/15.5 miles away from Sliven, has a capacity of 400 million cubic meters. Many pumping stations and water catchments have been built, providing a peak flow between 50 and 100 l/sec. The Asenovets dam with a capacity of 28,2 million cubic meters is the main water source of the city. River of Toundja The municipality of Sliven is also rich with spas. Their water has proven its effectiveness in the treatment of ventricular, liver, locomotory and peripheral nervous system diseases.
