The HSE Community Games is an independent voluntary
organisation, operating in local communities throughout Ireland. The
organisation aims to provide opportunities for children and young
people aged 6-16 years to develop active healthy lives in a safe
environment through experiencing a wide range of sporting and
cultural activities. Community spirit and co-operation is fostered and
encouraged.
In October 2014, Killaloe Community Games committee organised a
meeting to promote the wide range of activities offered by
Community Games. Mary Loughnane, Tom Loughnane and Kieran
Harvey of Munstergroup Clare Community Games attended to
provide details of the events and activities. Following this meeting,
the committee put a plan in place and targeted activities where they
would be something for every child
2014 is Killaloe’s second year competing in Community Games and it
proved to be a very rewarding experience. The number of
participants increased, the range of activities that children took part
increased, 2 teams qualified for national finals. Killaloe boy’s school
who are involved in the Active Schools programme provided great
support in fielding teams and encouraging children to participate in
Community Games. A number of coaches from Ballina, Bridgetown
and Ogonelloe helped out voluntarily which added greatly to the
success and spirit of community games.

provided the Committee with invaluable insight on what works and
what doesn’t. The plan is to use this to continue growing the interest
