MANNERS OF THE WEEK DATES FOR YOUR DIARY BIRTHDAY

What a wonderful, active week we have had at school!
I had the pleasure of waving off the year 6 as they
nervously and excitedly said goodbye to their parents
before embarking on their Paris Trip. I also enjoyed
accompanying our year 5 who sung superbly at Mount
St Joseph’s residential Home, in Headingley. The
residents and sisters really appreciated and enjoyed
our visit. For some this will be the only opportunity
they have to see young people. Mrs Young, Mrs Lloyd
and I were very proud. On Thursday, I saw so many
happy faces of children in years 2, 3 and 4 who took
part in the sports festivals yesterday – luckily, the
weather was a huge improvement on last week! You
will receive your child’s report today and it was a
pleasure to read about such hard work, positive
attitudes and great progress made this term. Tomorrow’s fun run is currently being set up as I write this.
Please do come along, even if you have not yet registered.

NOTICES
At the end of the day, do not let children press the gate buzzer
and cross over the road without adult supervision.
The Newsletter next week. There will be an end of term letter
and the newsletter will be out on Monday.
Term finishes on Friday, 7th April. All children must be picked up
at 12.30. Please let us know if you have arranged for someone
else to pick up your child.
Just to update everyone. The
Chicks are very happy in their
new home.
A personal highlight for me this week has to be on
Monday when I arrived to watch the performance of 4
year 5 girls in the poetry competition. Although I was
extremely proud that RHS won, for me, the delight was
in the warm welcome I received from the girls. They
grinned, smiled and waved away at me. What a lovely
start to a super week and what a privileged job I have.

Former pupil William Cockerham, who started his rugby journey at RHS. His U14
team won the plate competition at Rossyln Park National Sevens, which is a very
big deal. Many a top level rugby player will have been involved in that competition
over the years, so he has done very well.
FINAL NETBALL NEWS
At Richmond House we do things with style and Thursday afternoon was no exception. We finished what has been an incredible netball season in terms of enjoyment, involvement, results and parental support with a fun filled festival of Hi 5
netball that involved all the Year 3 girls and even some of the Year 2 girls. The visiting teams, Gateways and Westville
played well and asked us to make sure they were invited next year. Our girls made us very proud. Their throwing and
catching skills were excellent. They moved well into space and displayed some super shooting. Marking is our next target
but the improvement and teamwork that was evident should be properly applauded. As always, Mrs Dean did us proud
with a delicious team tea where guests were fighting over the homemade buns! The icing on the cake was the mature
manner of Lucinda and Harriet, who not only helped team manage, but also umpired. A big thank you to Tiegan Baptiste,
one of our very able students, for her time and help on this afternoon and throughout the season. The girls in Year 2 and 3
have surpassed our expectations in these last two terms. Their skill level is high and their commitment and effort even
more impressive. This group of girls are going to be a force to be reckoned with so watch this space!

Richmond House Poetry wins Verse Place!
On Monday 27th March, Ellen, Dana, Georgina and Helena, all in Year 5, enjoyed success with their poetry performance at
‘Speak Up’, an annual poetry event hosted by GSAL. The competition is for Year 5 pupils from local schools, and this year’s
theme focused on the bid by Leeds to become European Capital of Culture 2023, which was officially launched on Tuesday. The day consisted of workshops, on composition and performance, and was run by professional poets from Leeds
Young Authors, Khadijah Ibrahim and Rheima Robinson. The children devised original poetry and studied published work
on the theme of ‘Voice’ and Leeds’ bid for 2023.
The evening performance in the Theatre Studio featured recitals from all of the children from the seven schools and the
poets themselves. In the first round, pupils performed published poetry followed by the poem they had composed during
the day. The audience consisted of friends and family and two judges, who awarded prizes in three categories, ‘Most Striking Line’, ‘Best Performance’ and ‘Overall Winners’.
The girls representing Richmond House were the ‘Overall Winners’ of the competition with their own poem, ‘Red Kite’.
Khadijah Ibrahim, founder of Leeds Young Authors, said: “I nearly fell off my chair when I heard some of the amazing lines
they had written!”

RED KITE
Red kite flies in the skies of Leeds,
Wings outstretched,
Soring through a cloudless Yorkshire,
Over vintage prey
Where on cobbled stone, conkers sold,
The aroma of a city’s history
Red kite flies in the skies of Leeds,
Tail meandering,
Through curved rows of shops.
Echoes of a hustle and bustle,
Where stadiums are stacked with strength and support,
And arenas are packed with audience applause.
Shoppers sift through market stalls,
And galleries—great gusts of culture,
Breathing in and puffing out inquisitive minds.
Red kite flies in the skies of Leeds,
Dancing in the wind,
But steered by an ambitious child,
With rope and red ribbons in the palm of its hand,
Pulling the strings of the future of Leeds,
Cookery club made some yummy cheese and Branston pickle tarts last night. This is one of Mrs Dean's speciality
recipes and they turned out just as delicious. Our thanks go to Mrs Dean and team again for providing all of the
ingredients, including their perfectly made pastry dough!!

YEAR 2 TRIP TO EUREKA
Year 2 had a fantastic visit to Eureka. They visited the All About Me Science area as part of their Science work on Health
and Growth. They had great fun learning about the human body. They also had a Workshop about Destination Space and
learnt all about Tim Peake and his time spent in space. Thank you to the parent helpers and to Mrs Dean for the yummy
packed lunches.
This morning, the whole of Year 3 and Year 1 got together to share reading some non-fiction books that the Year 3 children
have been busy making over the past 2 weeks.
As you can see, all the children enjoyed the experience. The Year 1s felt very grown up visiting the Year 3 classrooms and
the Year 3 children said that the Year 1 children were 'good listeners', 'very polite' and 'interested'.
Thank you Year 1 for being such an appreciative audience for the Year 3's work; it was a real treat to have your company
and reviews!

Year 3 Teachers
Year 4 have been busy making electronic “match it up games” in DT.
As these games were designed for 4-5 year olds, Year 4
took them into Ladybirds and Butterflies to try them
out. The children had a great time seeing if they could
match up the pictures.
