Are You Gonna Go My Way?
Bible Story: Are You Gonna Go My Way? (Great Commission/Ascension/Pentecost) • Acts 1:110; 2:1-41
Bottom Line: I can stick with it because God will help me.
Memory Verse: “Let us not become tired of doing good. At the right time we will gather a crop if
we don't give up.” Galatians 6:9
Life App: Endurance—sticking with what you started even when it gets tough.
Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.

Catch On: Make the Connection (Small Groups, 25-30 minutes)
Make the connection of how today’s Bible story applies to real life experiences through interactive
activities and discussion questions.
1. Hi Ho! Carrot-O (memory verse activity)
What You Need: “Hi Ho! Carrot-O Verse Cards” (Activity Page), “Hi Ho! Carrot-O Field” (Activity Page),
“Spinner” (Activity Page), brad, paper clip, paper lunch sacks, Bibles
What You Do:
Guide the kids to get into teams of two or three. Lead them to play a variation of “Hi Ho! Cherry-O” to
“gather” a “crop” of Bible verse words. To play, give each team a paper bag, a “field” and a “crop” of
“carrots” (set of Bible verse cards). Lead the kids to place the “carrot” cards on their “fields.”
Choose one team to start. That team spins and plays according to its spin:
 One carrot: Pick one carrot from your field and put it into your bag.
 Two carrots: Pick two carrots from your field and put them into your bag.
 Three carrots: Pick three carrots from your field and put them into your bag.
 Bird or Mouse: Take two carrots from your bag and place them back in your field. (If you have
only one carrot, put that one back. If you have none, do nothing.)
 Spilled Bag: Dump the carrots out of your bag, place them back in your field and start over.

Small Group, K-1
When each team has all its words, guide the teams to put their “crop” of Bible verse words in order.
Lead the kids to say the verse, pointing to each word as you read together. Next, help the kids look up
the verse using the navigation tips below.
Finding verses with kindergartners: Guide children to open the Bibles to the marked page. Point to the word
Galatians at the top of the page as you say “Galatians” aloud. Then guide children to find the big number 6 on the
page. Explain that this is the chapter number. Finally, guide them to look under the big 6 for the little 9; this is the
verse number. Tell the kids to point to the verse as you read the verse aloud. Then lead everyone to say the verse
together.
Finding verses with 1st graders: Guide children to open their Bibles to the front and find the table of contents. (Hold
up a Bible opened to the table of contents to show the kids what the page looks like.) When the kids find the table of
contents, lead them to find Galatians in the list under “New Testament.” You can help by telling them that Galatians
starts with the letters G-A. When the kids find Galatians, lead them to look at the page number beside the word.
Explain that the number tells them on what page they can find Galatians. Help the kids find the page. When they find
Galatians, explain that the big numbers on the page are the chapter numbers. Help them find chapter 6. Explain that
the small numbers are verse numbers. Help them find verse 9 in chapter 6. Tell the kids to point to the verse as you
read the verse aloud. Then lead everyone to say the verse together.
What You Say:
“Have you ever been on a vegetable farm or a fruit orchard? What sort of hard work does it take to
plant and gather a crop of carrots? (It takes hard work to prepare a field, to plant seeds, to water the
plants, to pull weeds, to protect the carrots from animals and bugs, and to harvest the crop.) What are
the rewards—or what do you get—for doing the hard work of caring for a crop? (You gather a lot in the
end; you have good food to eat; etc.) Making the wise choice and doing good is like planting and
gathering a crop: it takes hard work to stick with it, especially when it gets tough, but—in the end—there
will be a reward.
[Apply] “What do you think might be some rewards for sticking with it and doing good? (God is
happy or pleased; I show others what God is like; I can show others God’s love.)
“Living the way God wants you to live isn’t always easy. Sometimes it’s hard to [Recycle] make the
wise choice, to [Recycle] trust God no matter what, and to [Recycle] treat others the way you
want to be treated. But God wants you to endure—to stick with what you started, even when it gets
tough. And you know what? Galatians 6:9 promises us that it’s worth it to keep doing the right thing,
because God will reward our endurance. So remember: [Impress] I can stick with it because God
will help me.”
Pray and Dismiss
